Who you loved and who loved you

Written By: Debra Charles

“Who You Loved and Who Loved You”
(c)debcharles 2005

The sun is setting in the mountains
like it’s setting in my life
and in a moment of complete clarity
I see one thing that’s right
In this life we come full circle
We learn what we always knew
that in the end all that matters
is who you loved and who loved you

I watch you sleep at midnight
I remember every touch
and in a moment of complete honesty
I thank you for your love
‘cause in this life we come full circle
We learn what we always knew
that in the end all that matters
is who you loved and who loved you

A million years
and a million tears
and still one simple truth
in the end all that matters
is who you loved and who loved you

I Am Stronger

I have stumbled but I’ve not fallen
I have seen my share of dark and lonely days
So I won’t crumble from this heartache
I will hold my head up high and walk away
Even your cruel heart will never shake my faith

The pain is strong but I am stronger
The Lord won’t give me more than I can take
The pain is strong but I am stronger
You may bruise me baby but I’ll never break

I’m a survivor like my mama
and she taught me that the sun will still come up
and this old world will keep on turning
I can hear her voice inside when times get tough
Saying “baby girl don’t give up on love”

The pain is strong but I am stronger
The Lord won’t give me more than I can take
The pain is strong but I am stronger
You may bruise me baby but I’ll never break
You may bruise me baby but I’ll never break

Life is a Road (Keep on walkin')

Standing in the grocery aisle
looking at the frozen peas
She can’t imagine
anymore days like these
She leaves her cart standing there
and catches the cashier’s stare
Walks out the door
and keeps on walkin’

She hasn’t got a clue
what she’s walkin’ to
She don’t care
as long as it’s brand new
Picks up a pack of cigarettes
and smokes up her last regrets
Life is a road. Keep on walkin’

Bobby lays his guitar down
and looks out into the crowd
He doesn’t see a single face
he cares about
He’ll just let the DJ play
They won’t notice anyway
Walk out on main
and keep on walkin’

He hasn’t got a clue
what he’s walkin’ to
He don’t care
as long as it’s brand new
He drops off the trailer keys
and leaves a note
“Thank God I’m free”
Life is a Road. Keep on walkin’

They don’t have a clue
what they’re walkin’ to
They don’t care
as long as it’s brand new
Leavin’ everything they’ve got
Should be sorry but they’re not
Life is a Road. Keep on Walkin’

Light Through The Window

“Light Through The Window”

I believe in prayer
That’s when I know that He still cares
So in this moment of doubt I’m on my knees
Asking Lord reach down to me

Then I see a light through the window
from ten thousand stars hanging in the sky
and in that moment I remember
He has been there all of my life
and out of all the beating hearts in this great big world
He knows mine

This world will always change
but my Lord will stay the same
Even when my faith is weak
He will find a way to comfort me

When I see a light through the window
from ten thousand stars hanging in the sky
in that moment I remember
He has been there all of my life
and out of all the beating hearts in this great big world
He knows mine

When I see the stars above
I can see his love

When I see a light through the window
from ten thousand stars hanging in the sky
in that moment I remember
He has been there all of my life
and out of all the beating hearts in this great big world
He knows mine

Just Like Me

Written By: Debra Charles

“Just Like Me”

Your Clothes, your books, your favorite cup
gone to dust without your touch
Your coat, your shoes wait by the door
and it’s you they still wait for
Just like me
Just like me

Your mama called me yesterday
She still can’t find the words to say
Your brother brought a single rose
says he still can’t let you go
Just like me
Just like me

Without you this world is so lonely
and everyone you ever loved is missing you
missing you
Just like me

Now every night is like a thousand years
cause every moment’s one more you’re not here
You’re not here
oh this house is so empty
and everything you ever touched is missing you
missing you
Just like me

missing you
Just like me

He'd Rather Be Right

Written By: Deb Charles

“He’d Rather Be Right”
© deb charles 2006

All it would take is on tiny gesture
one gentle word, just one tender touch
All it would take is a little forgiveness
then they could save what’s left of their love

but he’d rather be right than be in her arms
holding her tight and keeping her warm
oh he’ll let her crawl and he’ll watch her cry
but nothing will change, ‘cause he’d rather be right

She’d give anything if she could go back
undo what she did and still have what she had
but she can’t erase that moment in time
and he can’t find the grace to leave it behind

‘cause he’d rather be right than be in her arms
holding her tight and keeping her warm
oh he’ll let her crawl and he’ll watch her cry
but nothing will change, ‘cause he’d rather be right

oh nothing will change
‘cause he’d rather be right
