Bio

De Capulet is a two-piece (studio) indie-rock band comprised of two nice boys with an ear for a very different genre of music. In this case, the word "band" is used in the most lenient of terms; the more appropriate label would be a "musical enlightenment". With influences ranging from Don Mclean to The Shins to The Beatles, these tambourine/guitar savvy musicians bring a new styling to the smorgasbord of music birthed in the Phoenix area. To go along with this ear-friendly duo's guitar playing is a wonderful set of lyrical compositions which blends metaphorical stories and actual events into a series of highly identifiable tracks on their soon-to-be debut full length album.

De Capulet consists of two Phoenix natives, Jakob (Jake) Johnson, 18, and Ben Mendelsohn, 19. Both have been involved in musical attempts across the Phoenix music scene since early 2001, and happened upon each other by chance.

"Every other band we've been in has been made up of at least 4 of our friends," says Johnson, "It just so happened we all had, shall we say, 'creative differences' with most of the guys we worked with".

The two claimed sanctuary in a local community college recording studio, collaborating together on four songs, which would later appear on the "Ourglass" EP (available now), in early 2005.

"We actually record all of the instruments and tracks ourselves, and on the [Ourglass] EP, we basically produced the entire thing ourselves. It was a long hours in the studio consistently for 3 months. It was a lot of fun," laughs Mendelsohn.

Under different band names and different musical genres, Jakob and Ben have both shared the stage with the likes of Greeley Estates and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, two Arizona bands who have made a name for themselves in a matter of years. Currently, De Capulet is consistently lives in Encinitas, CA, and makes ventures across the Southwest, opening for bands such as Limbeck, Meg and Dia, and has been chosen as a replacement for Jack's Mannequin on several dates with O.A.R.

"We're somewhat of a younger band," explains Johnson, "and the experiences we've had in the past have really prepared us for what we know lies ahead. We know that it takes a staggering amount of hard work and disappointment to get anywhere in our field. We're only 1 year old, and it's really been wonderful to have worked with the great people we've worked with so far."
