"Cry of a Hawk"

Dechen Hawk's debut album, Live From Penny Lane, is pure bodhicitta. He speaks the dialect of the heart, using a gifted voice and ernest lyrics to communicate a sweet, gentile vulnerability. He's not afraid to be afraid. His sound is filled with discovery and searching.

A friend the other day was having a hard time. Some of Dechen's lyrics came to mind: "And it feels like the ground has been pulled right out from under me and I'm looking for somethibng to stand on/ And the truth then reveals itself for all of us to plainly see that eventually our negative tendencies will just fade and fall away." I decided then and there to give this CD to her.

When I read the Hawk card in 'The Animal Medicine Card Deck,' it said: "The shrillness of Hawk's call pierces the state of unawareness and asks you to speak the truth." I laughed-because this is exactly what Dechen's music can do. - Elephant Magazine
