DEEPTRIP

„Promised Land“, the first single track from the new album "TV & GAMES", opens subtly and resonates with the raw and earthy tones of a bow being drawn across cello strings. Such is the calm before the storm, the spark before the inferno. The first sounds begin to grow, as if driven by an elemental force, into a thunderstorm, the urge of a generation that walks the chambers of hell every day. Remote control in hand, family-pack of popcorn bag on their lap.

On the one hand, the massive sounds of DEEPTRIP seem fueled by the lyrics. Between the lines one can read into the despair, the rage and the yearning desire to break away. And then there’s a new interpretation of Rock n’ Roll’s magic formula. Along with the guitar and drums, the cello, violin and double bass provide vast dramatics. The changing timbres of the strings are able to carry balladesque numbers on a bed of clouds and then blazingly penetrate the guitar-enforced walls of a hard rock buff like a buzz saw.

One could refer to it as “ Classic Rock”, in the broadest sense of the term. DEEPTRIP feeds on the best alternative electric guitar sounds of the past three decades, from Soundgarden to Therapy? on over to Seether and Stone Sour.

DEEPTRIP have toured and performed alongside some of their idols. It was at these shows that the Zurich natives drew their inspiration for their soundtrack to the second album. And as multilayered as the songs have ultimately emerged on “TV & GAMES”, they have sprouted from the same seed: the deep dissatisfaction of swallowing the morning newspaper’s bloody images with overly sweetened instant coffee. The world is on fire. And slowly but surely, it’s getting too late to change the channel.
