Bio
Deep Water was born from lead singer Rob McGiffin's love of Classic Rock and his rythym section's (John Rios and Matt Gilbert) love of performing. Musical influences include Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Bad Company, Neil Young, Led Zepplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and many others.
Originally from British Columbia, Canada, Singer/Guitarist Rob travelled down to Southern California to try out for the San Diego Padres baseball team. After a gruelling try-out, Rob was cut. Rob decided to stick around and attend Fullerton College. Through a mutual friend, he met Matt Gilbert and John Rios. Though Rob was only just beginning to think about a music career, he was invited to join a band, as a guitarist, that Matt and John were already playing in. As Rob's talent (and confidence) grew, it was decided that he should be the front man.
Now, armed with a new frontman, a new name, and a new set of songs, this hard-rockin' power trio set out to look for a new scene and a new fan base. They decided to devote their show to one location and following in the footsteps of one of their favorite bands, Cream, they chose to try to pack as many people into a tiny, smokey bar as possible. Playing weekly 3-hour sets with as many as 40 songs, word of mouth quickly spread, and throngs of people began showing up to hear and see this energetic group, and the band has been putting in the legwork to begin playing all over Southern California.
