As a rule, it’s best to avoid anyone who happily applies the tag ‘singer-songwriter’ to themselves – the phrase is too redolent of MOR radio balladry, shopping centre busking and clunking protest songs. These days, there’s usually an issue of ego at play there too. For a long time now, the only way for a solo artist to distance themselves from this is to adopt a ‘band name’. Newcastle based Trev Gibb neatly sidesteps this issue by writing introverted and melancholic songs. There’s not a hint of ‘look at me everybody’ about his music at all. Which is just how it should be.
Ahead of the release of his excellent mini-album Summer Tears, on Rainboot, Trev Gibb releases two free acoustic e.p.s the first, Postcard is available now, the second, Dancing follows on June 28th. - Suitcase Orchestra
Trev Gibb is somehow a fascinating kind of musician. His songs are rather melancholic, but filled with warmth. His lyrics are brooding, but seemingly without effort. His EP Summer Tears will be released on the 19th July and you should see for yourself how it works out. I will say this much: it does quite well. - Emerging Fervour
Newcastle singer-songwriter Trev Gibb had David Brewis of Field Music work with him on his self-titled debut album (see Bandcamp page for details) and that band's subtly complex melodic sense is reflected here alongside a richly expressed introversion with shades a 4-era Scott Walker plus hints of Mark Eitzel and Elliot Smith. In its own unobtrusive way Gibb has constructed a DIY patchwork of real feeling and oblique directness. - Sweeping The Nation

Bio
Deerhart were formed in the late summer of 2010 out of a necessity to bring material songwriter Trev Gibb recorded with Field Music's David Brewis to a live audience.
Deerhart are Trev Gibb (vocals, keys, guitar) Kev Irving (bass), Nick Sheffield (guitar), Anth Steel (guitar) and Alex Hall (drums).
Think Scott Walker, Big Star, Orange Juice, American Music Club, Prefab Sprout, Television, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Jim O'Rourke and Wilco and you'll be somewhere close to music the band hold dear.
Deerhart will support Field Music’s ‘Plumb’ album launch on Feb 10th at Newcastles Cluny. An EP of the band material is due in the summer of 2012, and a limited 7’’ release of the highlights of Trev's recorded material done under Field Music’s production is also planned.
