Bio

Defect began in 2005, founded by Keith Jones & Mark Fowler. Defect came together with an interest in making music that was Heavy, Dark and Melodic, based around the twin guitar attack popular with many heavy metal bands in the 80s and early 90s, albeit with a distinctly darker more modern edge.
Drummer, and Rhythm Guitarist, Dave Hynes from Cork City joined in early 2005 to complete the quartet.
Defect recorded their debut Demo EP at BPM Studios in Douglas, Cork during January 2005. The EP, tentatively titled, Dead Silence, features 4-tracks, Empty Cage, Dead Silence, Breaking Point & The Nameless, all of which are original compositions. With this EP under their belt, Defect have played shows in An Cruiscin Lan, Nancy Spains and headlined Cork Rocks and Blast in the Halfmoon Theatre, Carnage Metalfest, Hard Working class Heroes, to name a few.
When The band played the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin, a downloadable music chart was set up for all the bands on the bill. Out of 100 bands Defect were voted in the top ten, no mean feat for the only metal band on the bill.
Shaun Cadogan replaced Dave Hynes in April 2006 on guitar and made his debut at the Jack Daniels sessions in Cyprus Avenue. The band have just finished laying down the tracks for their brand new EP which is due for release late in the autumn that will define the band even more and show what they are really all about. Drummer Colm McCarthy has since left the band and has been replaced by dynamic sticksman and all round lunatic, Francis Daly.
In what has been a chaotic year for the band defect with many lineup changes and recording sessions, Defect have also spread their wings and brought their music to various venues throughout the country of ireland including, limerick, kilkenny and dublin.
In June 2006, defect were nominated to represent Ireland in the Euorivsion heavy metal contest. Defect were also voted best band apart 2005 by the Evening echo newspaper in cork. The future looks bright for defect
