Javier and Carlos Salazar, better known as "Defined Star" are the quintessential Latin Urban music duo that personify the genres need for independent production of good music. The Puertorican/Dominican duo grew up in the birthplace of Hip-Hop: The Boogie Down Bronx. Heavily influenced by the Latin sounds of their neighborhood, the self sufficient duo blended their urban style with latin sounds to create a New York - Latin Urban feel to their music. The perfect blend of Hip-hop, salsa, merengue, bachata, house, and reggae just to name a few is evident in their music. Thus their nickname, "Defined Star"...Their diversity in music is evident in tracks such as "Quiero Saver" that has an R&B/ Hip Hop feel to it, or "Loca-Loca" that has an urban-techno influence. Not only can Defined Star write, produce, and record their own songs...,but they can also independently distribute it. Selling thousands of copies of their first ever mixtape "La Nueva Recreacion"(The New Recreation) in 2007 proved that this duo is the first true self-sufficient Latin-Urban duo in history! They have also performed all over NYC and created a buzz in the Latin Urban underground scene. Being artists in today’s modern music business is difficult, but for "Defined Star" : being artists, producers, engineers, and marketers is one of the many aspects that make them who they are.
