Deja Moo

Deja Moo is a band with depth, feel, a fun acoustic/rhythmic sound and great style and attack on traditional tunes. Their original songs convey the essence of Deja Moo through the traditional singer/songwriter talents of Ken, and the old timey, simple living influences heard in Chip's songs.
Chip's "Granny Wade" is a family tradition preserved on their second CD released in 2006. "Thanks For The Porch" (2007) features 11 original songs including, Sure Gets Hot In July, Ken's tribute to Bonnie's flower power.
Ken Swanson is a veteran of twenty years on the club circuit in Chicago and Tampa , where he performed with a wide range of groups from acoustic duos and trios to flat out rock and roll. His lead vocals, smooth harmonies, and ear for building the Deja Moo harmonies, are an integral part of the Deja Moo sound.
Chip Robinson's music career began in hometown Charlottesville, VA, playing electric guitar with early rock & roll/motown bands, and several years spent playing with electric folk rock duos and trios in Upstate New York clubs. Now settled on his Virginia farm, Chip's influences inspire old time fiddle tunes, dance jam music.......he just loves the Horseflies.
John Hagedorn's love of bluegrass music stems from 20 years spent singing lead and playing guitar with the Ramapo Ramblers in NJ. John's banjitar adds that bluegrass drive to many of Deja Moo's songs, and his flat picking guitar style provides tasty leads. John joined Deja Moo in 2004.
Bonnie grew up in Western PA, listening to Dad "Button Box Brown" and family and friends on the accordion. Her varied accordion styles enable her to belt out a rollicking Cajun tune, and to sweetly accompany Deja Moo's ballads.
Bonnie's vocals provide strong leads and tight harmonies. Bonnie adds entertaining percussion, including old time washboard and spoons.
Mary's bass playing began on the back porch playing on a homemade washtub - strung with a harp string and a broomstick. Her upright bass playing, influenced by the old timey Freighthoppers, and Chip's passion for old time music, supplies the bottom for Deja Moo.
Begun at informal jam sessions among friends on porches and in living rooms (still a vital part of Deja Moo), the band has been entertaining regularly in Central VA in coffeehouses, small clubs, and at festivals since 2000.
