"The Night Owl"

Delcoa is one of my favorite local acts. They blend folk, funk, and pop to create unique tracks that get your head bobbing and your chi movin. On March 14th, they'll be holding their record release at Wrigley Mansion with guests EastonAshe. If you yearn for great local music, this is a must-attend...I plan to have an album review after I pick it up and see them perform it live, so stay tuned. - AZ Weekly

"McDowell Music Fest Benefits Charities"

There is nothing that brings people together quite like music-and a good cause. Since 2004 The McDowell Mountain Music Festival, a non-profit festival...
This year's 13-band line-up April 24-25 at WestWorld of Scottsdale will feature Hot Tuna, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Young Doubliners, Matisyahu, The Flaming Lips and Indigenous. Others that will perform are the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Assembly of Dust, and Railroad Earth, along with local talent Delcoa, Haven James, Ten Dollar Outfit and Random Karma.
"Whenever music is used in service for 'the greater good,' a show can take on a tangible and positive vibe between the band and the crowd," said Ethan Newman, bassist for Phoenix-based band Delcoa. "It has been said before, but music really does have a unique power to motivate people and harness their energy for the benefit of others."

"Simply Listen"

Written by Joe Koch
Delcoa is comprised of five all-star musicians whose talents shine as one cohesive unit. The opening track, “Pieces,” is a perfect example of how you can easily hear each individual's talent, but they do it in a way that melds together in perfect harmony and melody.
As soon as you’re focused on Tony King’s drums, Jay Poole sneaks his guitar into the mix with a blistering solo that brings the song to an explosive crescendo. The third song, “Far Enough,” highlights the harmonies that Jay Allan and Ashley E. Norton are capable of creating. I love that there are harmonies through the entire song. They control them with ease, setting the mood in the verse and bringing the vocals to a climax in the chorus. On track four, “Watchpot,” the rhythm section of Ethan Newman (bass) and Tony King (drums) lay down a funked-up groove that lasts about one minute in the middle of the song and could easily have gone on all night. The sweet serenade that is "Set Sail” makes you believe in the happy ever-after; Jay Allan's vocals remind me of the Barenaked Ladies.
This album is fused with tones of jazz, folk, funk and rock like on the song “False Gravity,” which exemplifies their diversity as they grind it out, allowing Jay to sing from his gut. The Nora Jones-esque “Conversations with the Moon” rolls as smooth as the wine from your glass to your tongue and guest musician Stefan Platamone adds a beautiful trumpet to highlight this song. This is the kind of album that you find yourself discovering new pleasures every time you listen. Lose yourself in their musical journey.

Bio

Phoenix, AZ—It is known in the West as “folky-funk rock” and it’s coming towards you, so get ready to get down, bob your heads and sing along. Wrap folk, funk, blues and good ol’ rock n' roll around tight harmonies that erupt from four men and one soulful woman and what you get is Phoenix-based band Delcoa. Composed of five musicians each from unique and diverse musical backgrounds, Delcoa comes together with honest and memorable songwriting, dynamic stage presence and a grooved-up backbone that keeps listeners’ heads bobbin' back for more.

In the 2009 McDowell Mountain Music Festival, Delcoa appeared opening for Michael Franti & Spearhead, Hot Tuna, The Flaming Lips, and Matisyahu. Word travelled and Delcoa was invited to play at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition and after-party in June. With a well-established Arizona fan-base, Delcoa is now spreading their music across the country. The band hit the road early May on a successful tour of Chicago, Oklahoma City and Austin, which landed them a pre-show before Austin City Limits.

Delcoa was built in 2005 on the foundations of lead singer Jay Allan’s catchy guitar playing and heartfelt songwriting with Ashley Norton’s dynamic and soul filled voice. Known as “Jay & Ash,” the duo began by playing anywhere they could, including small restaurants and night clubs. As the crowds grew, word spread and shortly thereafter they were recruited to play some of Phoenix’s best music venues. However, people clamored for a band to accompany the fantastic duo.

In the beginning of 2006, Jay and Ash met with friends and Phoenix music scene all-stars, bassist Ethan Newman and drummer Tony King for a stripped down jam session. They quickly realized they had that elusive thing called chemistry and Delcoa was born. After only a handful of rehearsals and a short list of material, they eagerly headed into Livinghead Studios to record. The result was their debut album, "Roots, Bridges and Branches."

Shortly after the album release, Delcoa played a show with friend and lead guitarist extraordinaire, Jay Poole. They instantly knew that he was the final piece of the puzzle and asked him to hop on board. After many shows, blood, sweat and tears, Delcoa then lived hours in Jay Poole’s home studio to produce the next album. In early 2009, “Simply Listen” is born. This new storybook of songs takes you through a wide-range of eclectic vocals, rhythm and space; taking chances while hooking audiences in with a collection of distinctive hits. Delcoa continues to grow into a powerhouse of self described "folky-funk rock" and the voices just keep getting louder.

Delcoa has played or is booked to play: The Wrigley Mansion, The McDowell Mountain Music Festival, The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, The Westgate Superbowl Stages 2008, Channel 3 and 10 Morning News, Noche De Gourmet, Tempe Arts Festival, Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge Stages, Martini Ranch, The Rhythm Room, Club Congress, The Tiniest Bar In Texas, Tommy’s, Goose Island, Bell Island Brewery, AZ Chicks With Picks Festivals, NASCAR events, Phoenix and regional indie radio stations...

Delcoa is bringing their “folky-funk rock” to the rest of the country soon. For more information or to book Delcoa contact julietproductions09@gmail.com.
