Bio

De Lions of Jah are an ensemble of very creative and eclectic members which comprise the upbeat and soulful roots reggae band that they have grown to be. Following in the footsteps of Bob Marley and The Wailers, Steel Pulse, and Morgan Heritage, De Lions fuse traditional roots music, with contemporary dance hall and dub influences. Being that the Lions originate and are based in Jacksonville, Florida, they are an array of band members from various places. The lead vocalist Dave "Da General" Philip is from Antigua which is located in West Indian Islands. General, as he is often called, is an experienced reggae vocalist who has produced many CD's over the last 10 years, providing listeners with raspy harmonic chanting and soul moving songs. General also possesses the ability to sing like classic reggae vocalists of the past as well as chant live. He displays contemporary dancehall styles that make for a very entertaining and compelling show. On the keys is Jahsani "The Mad Scientist" Crossley who is from St. Thomas which is located in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Jay, as he is often referred to by fellow band members and fans alike, brings a Hip-Hop knowledge-base and personality to the band. With his younger sensibility and flare, Jay brings the keys to a completely different level while still maintaining a crisp and entertaining sound. On the bass is Chris Washington, who is from St. Augustine, Florida. Chris and "Da General" are the energy of the band as they provide the high energy, dread-swinging, and heartfelt show that has come to be the staple of "De Lions of Jah". With his experience and talents on the bass, Chris adds a complete and full sound to the band. His deep sense of rhythm and timing hold its own on song after song, show after show. On drums is Desmond "Skins" Cancer, who is from Charleston, South Carolina. Des, as he is also referred to by the band and friends, moves the stage with hard and precise percussion which provides the pace and, in collaboration with Chris, the rhythm for each song. The deep pound of the drum on each song touches the heart of listeners of all ages, old or young. Skins started playing the drums in his church until he discovered that he had a love for the beat of reggae and began playing reggae drum rhythms from that point on. And after playing roots music for over 10 years, Skins has perfected his one drop style which has become his signature and drives the show. Also, on vocals is Claire Hall, who is from Orange Park, Florida. She plays the keys and sings for her church. She is entering her senior year of high school, so as the youngest member of the band she provides a great deal of youth to the feeling of De Lions. De Lions of Jah is an overall deep rooted cover and original reggae band with two self-made and promoted CD's which yielded original recordings like “MUSIC” and “I-95” which have come to be fan favorites. These CD’s have created an even stronger following and have been recommended by many reggae fans and enthusiasts in the states and internationally. The message that "De Lions of Jah" hope to spread is awareness and consciousness to the masses, with the sole purpose of uplifting hearts, and helping people to see the need for Peace and Love in these difficult times. One Love Forever...
