"Local Boys Mercy Service Rock ArtFest."

I will tell you I saw some great things and heard some good music. First was Mercy Service...Southern rock for modern folks! Ken Demith has a good, powerful voice and I soon found myself singing songs that I had never heard before. The songs are well written, and for a band that has only been together for 8 months they are very tight and all possess good stage presence.

Bio

Singer/Songwriter Ken Demith has been lucky really. Lucky that he spent summers at his grandparents farm in Rosine just a few miles from the Monroe family home enjoying Bluegrass music and the countryside that inspired it. Lucky that his mom moved the family to Tennessee to become Nashville's premiere hair and make up stylist giving Ken the opportunity meet and spend time with entertainers such as Roy Orbison, Jerry Reed and Conway Twitty. Even living a mile or so away from Johnny and June Cash. Ken used to sit in the balcony of the First Baptist Church every Sunday where they'd often slip in for services. Yes, Ken has passed the offeratory plate to the Man in Black. Lucky that mom married a singer/songwriter Curtis Lee Conroy that taught him how to play those John Lee Hooker songs and lent him his old Sony 2 track recording machine to learn to produce. Lucky he met virtuoso guitar player Don Wood of the Tennessee Shieks in college. Lucky that all this rubbed off on him and brought the music which was the farthest thing on his mind out of him.

Ken has been lucky upon moving to Texas to meet Steve Brown and Tony & Tom Ammerman who nutured his talent and suffered through his musical maturation to lead the band mercyservice and release the fine songs you hear on this site. Lucky to have had the chance to learn about producing from one of the best in Texas, Rob Wechsler. Lucky to find Rick Reed and DW Hadley along with Steve and Tony to form the most fun band imaginable, the Comealongs allowing Ken to stretch into banjo playing and work hard to fill the role as guitar player.

All this luck brings us to where Ken is today. His songwriting is sometimes serious, sometimes somber, sometimes silly but always sincere. He has a love for traditional music as well as classic rock, bluegrass and funk and soul that shows up in the variety of styles you’ll experience at one of his shows.

The music takes you places warm and cozy, it may make you stop and think or at times make you want to git on up off yer feet. At Ken's show, you’ll hear tales of loving the big girls, murder, taking a trip, falling in love, getting your heart broke, dancing and getting drunk and surfing the internet for that dirty stuff. He might even play a few songs he didn’t write, but the way he plays it, you might not recognize it right off. Come to show and let him know what you think, he'd rather hear it from you what his music is about.

Ken is producing 2 records. He is producing the Texas singer/songwriter Mark Midland's first production studio album...targeted for a summer 2007 completion.

He's also forming a new band with the talented Jeff Gruber and Sean McWilliams to release his first record since the 2002 mercyservice album. Also targeted for summer 2007. The band will is planning 10-15 shows in the region to support the release.
