Bio

“Watching Dennis play reminds you of the reason you like music, he has the passion and the talent” - Peter Patterson – Shock Music Publishing Pty Ltd

“…Hanrahan has the vocal presence to transform standard beer joint country rock into something above par – and its damn good fun! Yeehaa!” - Stuart Olds, musicworks.co.uk.

Den Hanrahan was born kicking and screaming and he’s not about to change. Part country pub rocker, part poetic troubadour, he is a singer, songwriter, storyteller, guitar and harp player, stomp-box stomper, lap-steel slider and on the odd occasion he’s even been known to step into hillbilly heaven and bring out the banjo!

Likened to alt. country artists such as Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and even Paul Kelly, Den’s music is country rock born of one-night stands and roadhouses, and he’s not afraid to take his audience along for the ride a with his gutsy vocals, lively guitar playing and raw, stripped back style. His gigs are bold and upbeat, yet he maintains an intimacy with the audience as he weaves his way through tales of the lonely life on the road and the characters he has met traveling on it.

Over the years Den has toured extensively, playing all over the east coast of Australia – from The Vanguard in Newtown to The Conargo Pub, from The Priory Hotel in Dongara to The Cornish Arms in Brunswick and virtually every town in between. Whether it’s the Tamworth Country Music Festival (each year since 01), the Red Dust Festival, Windmill, Woodford, The National Folk Festival, the Deniliquin Ute Muster, or even a foot-stompin’ pub gig, Den’s performances have them lining up and begging for more. His regular forays into the city scenes on Melbourne and Sydney is further testament to the broad appeal of his music and his capacity to draw audiences from all demographics.

Discography:
2004 - Den launched his self-titled debut EP at the 2004 Tamworth Country Music Festival - promptly selling out the first pressing - and in March 2004 he scored a publishing deal with Shock Music Publishing Pty Ltd.
2007 - After a year in the recording studio with the brilliantly talented Michael Roberts (‘Black Crow Callin’ – Karl Broadie) Den’s much anticipated debut album, RED DUST has now been released.

Den is an artist in demand. He has played supports with The Hoodoo Gurus, Mick Thomas, Bill Chambers, Karl Broadie, The Re-Mains, Melanie Horsnell, Matt Corcoran, The Waz E. James Band, The Radiators, Steve Lucas, Fat Dusty, Killing Heidi and with International artists Rod Picott (Tennessee) & Shannon Lyon (Canada). He has often been joined on stage by the legend of Australia's country music scene, Bill Chambers, who rates Den as "one of his favourite singers".

Reviewing Den’s EP, Stuart Olds – www.musicworkz.co.uk - said “…the live bonus tracks perhaps epitomise Hanrahan’s appeal; foot tapping sing-along tunes (‘This Ol’ Train’) that keep the punters happy and keep the barman busy. For a born and bred Aussie, this guy sounds an awful lot like he just crawled out of a boxcar on some Southern state railroad, stumbled into a roadhouse, and started belting out southern style country rock as if he was weened on the stuff…” For a full review visit: www.musicworkz.co.uk and look under archives.
