Biography

Denis defies description. His music is folky but not completely folk, jazzy but not jazz, soulfull, rootsy, and the list goes on but you wouldn't describe the music in any of those terms. What you get are brillliant little stories that are presented in a form that best suits them. The positive energy is disarming.
Denis, a veteran songwriter living in Central MA, has recorded three albums which have recieved local and national critical acclaim. He has appeared in concert and at festivals with such luminaries as Richie Havens, Aztec Two Step, Susan Warner, Martin Sexton and Badfinger. He is currently busy as a studio producer and is a regular on the local scene.

Lyrics

Strong Enough

Written By: Denis Coughlin

Strong Enough
I wanna be strong enough to lift
your spirit
I wanna be brave enough to take you
from the dark
Clever enough to recognize the
truth when I hear it
I wanna be smart enough to know
your heart
What’s wrong with the world baby I
don’t know
Sometimes it looks upside down
I wish that I could maybe turn it
right
Put it’s feet back on the ground
Maybe if I were a Superman
Maybe if I were a man of steel
But you’d never love some cardboard
cut out pin up boy
‘Cause all I can be is real
I wanna be strong enough to lift
your spirit
I wanna be strong enough to take
you from the dark
Clever enough to recognize the
truth when I hear it
I wanna be smart enough to know
your heart
There’s a moon that’s very close to
us
I wish it’s wisdom would prevail
Everybody is so out of touch
You have to win or you lose and fail
I feel her power like she’s next to
me
The ebb and rising of the tide
I want to channel all this energy
And everything I feel inside

Green

Written By: Denis Coughlin

Green
One small planet for all mankind
We’ve taken it for granted and it’s
taken us some time
Carve my tombstone for all to see
If you want your children to share
prosperity
Don’t wait for the sound of the
second shoe
Green is the new Red White and Blue
It’s only my humble point of view
Green is the new Red White and Blue
Wind and solar and organic fuels
We gotta stop behaving like crazy
fossil fools
Got us over a barrel got a gun to our
heads
Now we’re in a battle while the earth
is being bled
They’re killin’ to drill for the revenue
Green is the new Red White and Blue
Trouble is they don’t have a clue
Green is the new Red White and Blue
Don’t get me wrong I’m no dilettante
You want protest up a tree you can
stay as long as you want
We drive our trucks and that’s the
challenge
I remember when gasoline was pennies
on the gallon
You want to help the country
there’s a lot you can do
There’s not a lot of time left and
the choices left are few
It’s not about freedom It’s all
about science
It’s all about dependency and self
reliance
Don’t wait for the sound of the
second shoe
Trouble is they don’t have a clue
It’s only my humble point of view
Green is the new Red White and Blue
