Dennis M. Lalata is an amateur songwriter. He has self-produced about 17 of his original songs. He writes mostly pop songs with an alternative twist, that is he may highlight vocal harmony or tell a story concerning a particular social issue.

Biography

Dennis started writing songs only in the year 2000. He writes songs in the pop, gospel, inspirational, rock and adult contemporary genres. He is a winner of the 2005 Bayan Umawit Songwriting Contest organized by the Bukaspalad Music Ministry. His winning song “A Time for Everything” is included in the inspirational disc of Bukaspalad’s “Hindi Kita Malilimutan” album released in 2007 in the Philippines. Dennis aspires to create songs for a global audience writing about the story of the Filipino and social themes such as war, patriotism, women and children’s rights, among others, and combining them with the universal theme of love. He believes that his passion for songwriting can become a vehicle of expression for his profession as a writer and editor in the area of social science research. Together with his co-founding partners in Access 2 MYusik, a music publishing and recording company, he would like to help develop aspiring Filipino songwriters and artists gain access to the commercial music market.

Silence

Written By: Dennis M. Lalata

She walks in the shadows
Embracing her sorrow
She knows that tomorrow’s uncertain
The promise he gave her was twisted and broken
He wasted a heart that was free
She yearns for redemption but feigns consolation
While her tears fall in silence

She’s lost and forgotten
Like a withered leaf falling
Her hopes and her dreams forsaken
She hides all her worries like the cross that she carries
There’s no one to hear all her pleas
She creates her delusions and conjures her illusions
While her tears fall in silence

She feels but what does she feel now
She sees but does she believe now
And will she remember
She knows it’s not over ‘til she finds another to hold her

Then she opens a window
To look for tomorrow
An end to her pain and her sorrow
She dries all her tears and she faces her fears as
She chases her demons away
She throws her pretensions and reins her emotions
And she now dreads the silence

She utters a word that nobody has heard from her before
She breaks from her chains and saves what remains of her soul
Her own voice she finds like her own unborn child
Now that she’s breaking her silence

She feels the freedom within her
She sees the truth all around her
And she will remember
She knew it was over when she found the power inside her

She’s lifted the veil from her face
The fire in her eyes burns like sapphire
And so the world hears her story
Of years spent in deafening silence
Now that she’s ending her silence

With You Forever

Written By: Dennis M. Lalata

We’ve gone through all the good times and the bad
You pulled me through no matter what
You put me back on track
Love’s hard to find, thank God He showed me how
Now your heart is mine and my heart is yours
It’s a miracle of life

Though rough times come our way
No need for you to fear
‘Cause I will be with you forever
Forever by your side
I know we can be strong
We’ll weather every storm
We’ve come this far to be together
Forever you and I (Oh girl)

You keep alive this love that burns inside
When I’m with you my heart’s on fire
I feel Like I could fly high (fly high)
You’re on my mind every day and every night
The two of us just feels so right
And love can never lie

Believe me when I say
I love you more each day
And I will be with you forever
Forever by your side
I know we can be strong
We’ll weather every storm
We’ve come this far to be together
Forever you and I (you and I) (you and I)

Love heals our wounds, that we can’t deny
Love binds our souls for true love is the key
(We were meant to be) (We were meant to be)

Believe me when I say
I love you more each day
And I will be with you forever
Forever by your side
I know we can be strong
We’ll conquer every storm
We’ve come this far to be together
Forever you and I (oh girl)

And I will be with you forever
Forever (forever) by your side

If I Could Hold You Here Tonight

Written By: Dennis M. Lalata and Lynman L. Bacolor

I gaze at your picture this Christmas eve
It’s the only hope I can hold on to in this war’s reprieve
It’s the only way I can touch your face and kiss your lips
It’s the only time I can steal a moment of bliss

I see the darkness embrace this land
I can’t bear to hear the silence creep through this barren camp
It’s the calm before the perfect storm that waits as I pray
And life will never be the same after this fateful day

If I could hold you here tonight and maybe make things right
If I could turn the coming tide, tomorrow would be mine
If I could hold you here tonight

I try to dream of better days
When guns have ceased then laid to rest – plowshares in their place
Where the fields are green and the sun shines through your long dark hair
And no Christmas gift would compare to the life that we could share

If I could hold you here tonight and maybe make things right
If I could turn the coming tide, tomorrow would be mine
If I could hold you here tonight

I only wish that this same night next year
I’d be with you, I’d be with you back home

If I could hold you here tonight and maybe make things right
If I could turn the coming tide, tomorrow would be mine
If I could hold you here tonight…tonight
