Dennis Allen and the Hellhounds is a classic guitar blues band hailing from the frozen streets of Whitehorse Yukon. Allen is a consummate performer who takes the bluesman act all the way to the bank. A solid band and great showmanship, this is a must see road band.

Biography

Dennis Allen first CD, Wayward Son, twelve original songs, is a nod to his classic C&W upbringing. With the soon to be released, "Redskin Indian Dirt Road Reservation Blues," Allen digs deep to produce ten original songs that salute his heroes, blues legends Stevie Ray Vaughn and Robert Johnson. Produced by Juno award winning drummer Ed White, and recorded by Juno award winning engineer Bob Hamilton, "Redskin Indian" holds it own when it comes to good blues.

Lyrics

Learning How to Dance

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

SOMETIMES LOVE IS JUST TOO HOT TO HANDLE
SOMETIMES THE TRUTH JUST AIN’T WORTH THE SCANDLE
SOMETIMES IF FEELS LIKE LIFE TAKES YOUR LAST CHANCE
BUT IF YOU NEVER FACE THE MUSIC YOU’LL NEVER LEARN TO DANCE

WHY JUST TODAY I SAW AN OLD FRIEND
IT LOOKED LIKE HIS TROUBLES WERE BRINGING ON HIS END
HE BROKE DOWN AND CRIED AS HE TRIED TO MAINTAIN HIS STANCE
I SAID IF YOU NEVER FACE THE MUSIC YOU’LL NEVER LEARN TO DANCE

CHORUS
NO YOU’LL NEVER SEE THE SUN SHINE OR FEEL A ROBIN WEEP
YOU’LL NEVER SIT AND SMILE AS YOU WATCH YOUR CHILDREN SLEEP
YOU’LL NEVER TAKE YOUR LOVER ON THAT TRIP TO SOUTHERN FRANCE
IF YOU NEVER FACE THE MUSIC YOU’LL NEVER LEARN TO DANCE

NOW WE ALL KNOW LIFE HAS IT’S ROUGH TURNS
SOMETIMES LOVE IS EASY AND SOMETIMES IT BURNS
SOMETIMES IT FEEL SLIKE WE’RE FLYING BY THE SEAT OF OUR PANTS
BUT IF YOU NEVER FACE THE MUSIC YOU’LL NEVER LEARN TO DANCE
CHORUS

I'm just a carpenter

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

I'm just a carpenter
I build things with my hands
I built and old guitar
I once played in a band
But my son was born
I put it away
Sometimes at night
I sit alone and I play

I'm just a welder
I work with hot steel
We once had a band
We were close to a deal
But the singer got married
And the drummer OD'd
I got this job
I had a family to feed

Chorus
But the music still haunts me
And calls out my name
Promise of bright lights
Fortune and fame
I'm just a fool
For dreaming these dreams
But they're all I have
Some days it seems

She's just waitress
Raising kids on her own
She likes to sing country
Wynette and Jones
And she saves all her tips
To see them play live
She waits on the day
When their tourbus arrives

I'm just a trucker
I haul a long load
I once was a drummer
Out on this same road
But the drinking got heavy
And the drugs blew my mind
I was running on empty
I was running out of time

Chorus

Big Bad Woman Blues

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

I’VE GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN LORD SHE STANDS SIX FOOT TWO
SHE KICKS JUST LIKE A DONKEY AND RIDES JUST LIKE A MULE
I GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN LORDY LORD SHE’S TOUGH NEWS
I’VE GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN AND THEY CALL HER THE BLUES

SHE’S GOT BIG BROWN EYES AND RUBY RED LIPS
A SHANK IN HER BOOT AND A PISTOL ON HER HIPS
I GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN LORDY LORD SHE’S TOUGH NEWS
I’VE GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN AND THEY CALL HER THE BLUES

NOW LET ME TELL YOU PEOPLE WHEN THE BLUES COMES TO TOWN
YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR MEN FOLK, DON’T LET EM COME AROUND
SHE’S A BIG BAD WOMAN LORDY LORD SHE’S TOUGH NEWS
I’VE GOT A BIG BAD WOMAN AND THEY CALL HER THE BLUES

Wayward Son

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

Take me to the river momma
and cleanse my troubled soul
The jailer man is coming
and I must go
Ask the lord to forgive me
for all that I've done
And please pray for mercy on your wayward son

Since I was a young boy
I've been troubled by the law
Never heeding what you said
always going on my own call
But now you see the page has turned
and the time has come
For God to carry home your
wayward son

Chorus
I'm sorry momma for all the nights
You laid awake and cried
All the times you worried so
For that I apologize
And if somehow the past
Could someway be undone
Never would I be your wayward son

I never meant to promise
but it's something people do
I'm sorry if my promises
never did come true
But close your eyes and rest now
for the time has come
For God to carry home your
wayward son

Chorus

Bootlegger's Daughter

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

I ALWAYS WAS A GOOD BOY I TRIED REAL HARD IN SCHOOL
I ALWAYS WORE A CLEAN SHIRT AND OBEYED EVERY RULE
I NEVER DRANK NO WHISKEY NOR SMOKED CIGARETTES
I ALWAYS STOOD MY WORD AND ALWAYS PAID MY DEBTS

BUT THAT ALL CHANGED ONE DAY IN THE HOLLAR WHEN I FIRST LAID EYES ON THAT BOOTLEGGER’S DAUGHTER AND I KNEW FOR SURE THAT LIFE WOULD SURELY CHANGE

GO ON MOMMA GET SOME HOLY WATER
AND THROW IT UPON THAT OLD BOOTLEGGER’S DAUGHTER
AND TRY AND SAVE THAT BOY FROM A LIFE OF SIN

NOW IT’S TEN YEARS LATER AND WE’VE GOT SIX KIDS
SHE LIKES TO PLAY BINGO LAY AROUND AND BITCH
ME I GOT THREE JOBS AND A PAPER ROUTE
I DON’T THINK I’M EVER GETTING OUT

SHE WAS WEARING RED LIPSTICK AND HIGH HEELS SHOES
SWAYING TO THE BEAT OF SOME SILKY BLUES
AND THEY WAY SHE MOVED I KNEW SHE I WAS HER’S ALONE

Get Right With Jesus

Written By: Dennis Victor Allen

YOU’VE GOT TO GET RIGHT WITH JESUS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYIN’
GET RIGHT WITH JESUS AND COMMENCE ABOUT TO PRAYING
GET RIGHT WITH JESUS AND HE’LL SAVE YOUR WRETCHED SOUL
HE’LL TAKE YOU TO THE PROMISED LAND WHERE THE STREETS ARE PAVED WITH GOLD

YOU’VE GOT TO QUIT YOUR RAMBLIN’ NO GOOD GAMBLIN’ DAYS
SAY GOODBYE TO THEM OLD SINNIN’ WAYS
INVITE THE SAVIOUR DEEP INSIDE YOUR SOUL
SATAN WILL FOREVER FLEE AND THE SEED INSIDE WILL GROW

THIS OLD WORLD IS COMING TO AN END
YOU’VE GOT TO FIND YOURSELF ONE TRUSTED FRIEND
SOMEONE WHO’LL LOVE YOU JUST FOR WHO YOU ARE
WHETHER YOU’RE A BEGGER NOW OR WHETHER YOU’RE A STAR
