"Metal Maniacs Magazine"

"Department of Coreuption has a demo called Hanging Material which is a socially conscious, almost vicious attempt at thrashcore. With the death metal vocals of desperation, it works. You may never mock NJ again!" --Metal Maniacs Magazine 1990--

Bio

Born into the Crossover movement of the late 80s, Dept. C brought its metal riffs, hardcore edge and pounding drums to the NYC, CBGB and Lamour's scene. They lured skinheads, metal heads, skaters and punk rockers with socially conscious songs about war, healthcare, homelessness, mental illness and drug abuse.

DEPARTMENT OF COREUPTION aka DEPT. C

The late 1980s into the early 1990 s, the scene was New York City CBGB, Lamours, and the East Coast.Dept C influenced by all styles of music and the urban environment they lived in. A band that was hard to categorize with its metal riffs , hardcore edge and pounding drums, managed to lure a fan base mix of skinheads, metal heads, skaters and punk rockers with socially conscious songs about war, homelessness, healthcare, mental illness and drug abuse. Dept. C found themselves in the middle of the crossover movement, a scene that is still alive today and growing larger than life.

Department of Coreuption is not the average generic thrash band. Dept C is a NY/NJ based thrash-core act whose sound is a conglomeration of individual styles and influences. Formed as a four piece band their debut album demo entitled Hanging Material was released in February of 1988. As an independent band, they were able to obtain gigs in the metro area and beyond.

Hanging Material is a four song eight track demo that was recorded and mixed at Spectrum Studios in New York City. It was produced by Dept. C and engineered by Chuck Clearwater. Over 1000 copies of this independent tape were distributed throughout the world. The track “Free Will Free Hell” was chosen by New Renaissance Records for the compilation album Thrash Metal Attack Vol 3. The Remaining tracks from the demo were included in a number of under ground compilation tapes distributed throughout America, Europe South America, Canada and Japan.

Dept. C is not limited to playing only in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut clubs. They have embarked on mini tours of the East Coast and have attracted an enthusiastic following. Currently, they are getting airplay on many radio stations around the globe.

Bands they have played with include the Cro Mags, Destruction, Prong, Biohazard, Whiplash, Maximum Penalty, Sheer Terror, Adrenalin O.D.,Caligula, Bloodfeast, Mucky Pup, Gothic Slam and many others.

Poverty Stricken represents the bands’ new sound and direction. The band has progressed in their songwriting and arranging capabilities while retaining their “crunch”. “Runaround” and “Conscience Captured” are the newest material and represent the bands’ musical leanings. They remain steadfast in their commitment to constantly improve and are certain that the future holds no boundaries as to what they can accomplish.
