"a "Typical Love Song" I think Not."

"Josie"
Derek calls it a "typical love song" but it's obvious that he has gone out of his way to make sure it doesn't fall into too many typical cliches. The melody is adventurous and sung with such power and confidence. A voice that you wouldn't associate with romantic love but very sexy for a "Hot Speed Date" on this Station. I particularly liked the organ part in this (and I'm not trying to be funny there) I will deninitly check this artist out, star quality - JILLIANNE WRIGHT 2007 - IAC Station

"Catawba College student's CD to be released this Saturday"

Catawba College sophomore Derek Daisey has a bright future ahead of him with the release of his CD "All Behind Me."

Produced locally by Alan Grossman and Jimm Mosher of Hit Music Inc., the CD, set for release at Charlotte's Tosco Music Party this Saturday, has already gained the attention of Renaissance Records.

Daisey, who says he simply "enjoys creating and hopes to connect with those longing for inspiration," writes and performs songs of sometimes poignant realities with a musical maturity surprising for a singer so young.

Born in Ft. Myers, Fla., Daisey had drum lessons early on from his father, a rock drummer. But he wanted to write songs, and he didn't feel the drums were the best vehicle for that pursuit.

When he was 13, his father gave him guitar, and within a year, about the same time the two of them moved to Delaware, he was already singing and playing well. He names as his early music models the group Lifehouse and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls.

Daisey turned to music as a relief and escape during his tumultuous adolescence, and says he was able to find himself when writing songs, liberating demons through rhymes and melodies.

By age 18, having already won several songwriting awards, including the Singer- Songwriter division of Delaware's Players' Club competition, Daisey teamed up with Keith Mack, former guitarist for Scandal and Joe Cocker, to record his song "Only 17." This song against the establishment placed as a finalist in the John Lennon national songwriting contest last year.

Currently, Daisey is a sophomore music business major at Catawba. He was drawn to the small liberal arts institution by its innovative offerings in the popular music field, and the music department there has proved to be a supportive environment, where his songwriting has flourished.

Bio

Encapsulate yourself in the contemplative melodies of Derek Daisey, the brilliant and inspired up and coming songwriter/performer who simply "enjoys creating and hopes to connect with those longing for inspiration"? ; and prepare your soul for a fresh and imaginative experience. Full of coarse realties, strong harmonies, inspired guitar riffs and captivating hooks, Derek Daisey has released "All behind me," his debut album that's sure to reverberate through hearts, minds, and radios for years to come. Born in Ft. Myers, Florida, Derek began singing and mastering the guitar at age 13 after having been heavily influenced by John Rzeznik and the musical styles of the Goo Goo Dolls. Though listening to music offered Derek a relieving escape at times during his adolescence, he was able to find himself when writing songs by liberating demons through rhymes and captivating melodies. Therefore since that time, he has been constructing a library of songs and other emotional conceptions.

At 18, after a few years of writing songs, entering contests, and even winning some awards, Derek teamed up with Keith Mack, the former guitarists for Scandal and Joe Cocker to record his song ,Only 17; this particular endeavor was written about the many limitations and frustrations a young individual tends to experience when only 17 years of age. Ironically, his first real song against the establishment? 1; was entered last year into the John Lennon national songwriting contest and placed as a finalist, though unfortunately it was not a winner.

Currently Derek is a sophomore music business major at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. With a fervent desire to locate creative channels for his handiwork, Derek chose this small liberal arts institution to further his education and almost immediately upon arrival, new submissions of melodious gold began leaking out of his mind and his maturing soul. In September of 2006, Derek was introduced to Alan Grossman and Jimm Mosher of Hit Music, Inc. The two producers needed little persuasion after heeding the subtle sounds of Derek's demo and after six months of demanding hours and precise engineering, the company sent a final copy to the mastering studio in Charlotte. Just recently, and to be announced May 16th, 2007, Derek won 2nd place in the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
During the summer of 2009, Derek will embark on a 3 month acoustic tour to promote his album, "All Behind Me."
