Bio

Derif formed in early ’09 and have been working solidly over the year to write and record their debut EP Fading Away. Although Derif formed to fufill course requirements as part of a TAFE course in Leederville, Western Australia, the three members have found a strong musical rapport and have crafted a sound that is unique and purely Derif’s own.

All three members have grown up with a love of music and this is apparent in the depth of their music and bond as musicians. All members of the band have been inspired by local heroes like Powderfinger and Silverchair, and also give artists like Jeff Buckley, The Foo Fighters, Tool and Faith No More kudos when discussing music that excites them.

Working in an environment that nurtures creativity and the song creation process, Derif are close to completing their debut EP, Fading Away, and are eagerly awaiting confirmation of inclusion of the title track, on the highly anticipated annual Amped ’09 compilation album.

Fading Away as a single track is an emotional and rocking ride through a tale of lost unrequited love. A familiar tale told through the powerful and poignant vocals delivered by Sean Kessey. Sean is supported by budding guitar wizard Jamieson Nathan, who not only uses his guitar to help tell the story, he penns the tales expressed so fittingly by Sean. Backing up this already powerhouse sound is Steven Parker on drums. Steven has a love for all music and the instruments it takes to create that music but has settled on drums as his weapon of choice. Steven delivers punching drums, perfectly fitting and complimenting Sean and Jamieson.

Derif are looking forward to launching their EP and (hopefully) playing at the Compilation Launch to be held at the Rosemount Hotel on 26th November 2009. The press machine is going into overdrive and the buzz is building around this young band; whose emotionally driven alternative rock sound is sure to find a welcome audience.

Keep your radios tuned to your local community radio station and listen out for Derif.
