"PA MUSICIAN REVIEW from Acoustic Performance at MMC14"

Next up was Derrick Allen from the band Southern Junction all the way out of Alexandria, Kentucky. Derrick played one song solo, and then his guitar player Zach jumped up there with him for their great hit “Good Ole Boy.”

It was some great original country rock. Derrick Allen and Southern Junction are represented from Broad Horizon Records. See their business card ad in this issue to see where you can hear their amazing music and get them booked at your next big fair, festival, or venue!

Jim Horn from Deezle Church heard those twangy Kentucky voices and came a runnin! It turns out they all grew up in the same neck of the woods, so it was cool for Jim to see and hear a taste of home.

Jim and Darrell Adams from Deezle Church started off playing a crowd favorite, “Joceyln” and then of course played “Catastrophe” and “Whiskey.” Deezle Church amazes me everytime I see them, no matter what their situation is. The next night they had the awesome opportunity to open for David Allen Coe and they rocked the sold out venue!

"Derrick Allen to Country Rock the Double K"

Derrick Allen to country rock Double K

By Gerry PA Music Scene
February 06, 2010

Derrick Allen's Southern Junction will help kick off the 2010 Millennium Music Conference with a little bit of country, and a little bit of everything else too. Southern Junction takes the Double K Tavern stage on Friday, Feb. 19 at 11 p.m.

"If you are into a great time, beer drinking, and redneck yelling with a little rock twist you don't have to search no further," Allen says. "Come on out and have a holler and a swaller with us... and you will know what we mean."

Derrick Allen may be the front man for 'his' Southern Junction country-rock band, but he's got lots of help. There's Zach Roe on lead guitar, Erick Maschinot on Rhythm Guitar, Mick Seiter on Bass, and Mark Gindele on Drums, and everybody helping out with those soulful background vocals. Though they have worked with those they call "some of Nashville’s best" (Mark Easterling, Phillip Wolfe, Tom D'Angelo, Rudy Miller, Rusty Danmyer, etc.) this band doesn't intend to forget where they came from. By that they mean not just Alexandria, Kentucky, where the group hails from, but also the music that first stirred their souls.

"We all have played all different …genres, but country is our roots. It’s who we are. It’s where we come from. We all have a love and appreciation for music – that is what drives us," Allen says. Of course they have a broad repertoire – that’s what the Double K Tavern is all about.

Derrick Allen's Southern Junction is signed with Broad Horizon Records, which produced their self-titled debut album late last year. Derrick also has a solo album. Future plans include a music video, another album, and lots more. The immediate future, though, holds just one goal: instant gratification for the audience.

Catch them at the Double K Tavern Friday, February 19 at 11 pm.

"Come See What All the Fuss is About"

COME SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT

Falmouth Forum - Oct. 9, 2009.

Kentucky's newest country star has arrived and his name is Derrick Allen!

Originally from Pendleton, Ky. this good ole boy now resides in Alexandria, Ky. but he has caught the attention of Nashville and thousands of fans worldwide thanks to the networking site, MySpace.

While Derrick has only been playing professionally for a little over a year now, he has been singing around campfires and in church ever since he can remember. Friends encouraged him to pick up the guitar less than two years ago and start writing and the songs haven't stopped since.

A cross between a young Garth Brooks and Johnny Cash (with the stage presence of Toby Keith), this young man has put together a compilation of nine (9) original songs to be released Oct. 20 that invokes images of country life, broken hearts, family, and friends.

"He is a natural star" according to Broad Horizon Records, Inc. Director of Operations, Bob Lung. "We have been in communication with one another for a little over a year now and I have had the opportunity to see him develop into a world class act over the last several months. His songwriting is growing and developing....we feel he is going to have a long and prosperous career
. We are excited to be part of his debut release and are looking forward to a long lasting relationship."

You can see what all the fuss is about Friday, October 16 at the Ft. Thomas Pub in Ft Thomas, Ky. where he will be holding his CD release party and showcasing his new songs. While the CD officially comes out Tuesday, October 20, you can pick up a limited edition copy (only 200 pressings) at the CD release. Look for digital downloads to be available on I Tunes and Amazon.com among others in the next few weeks or contact your local record store.

Bio

After playing in bars and at festivals for several years, Derrick got serious about writing and recording his own music late 2008.

Friends encouraged him to post his songs on myspace where he received the attention Broad Horizon Records, Inc. and soon after went to Nashville to record his self titled debut release.

Working with some of Nashvilles best including; Mark Easterling, Phillip Wolfe, Tom D'Angelo, Rudy Miller, Rusty Dannmyer, and Brian Arrowood, Derrick has released a solid disc of heartfelt original country music in October 2009. (Available now on Broad Horizon Records)

Mixing Contemporary & Classic Country with Southern Rock for a sound they refer to as "doing it Kentucky style", Derrick Allen & Southern Junction are a crowd favorite everywhere they play.

Derrick formed his backup band, Southern Junction, with longtime friends and fellow musicians; Zach Roe, Eric Maschinot, Mick Seiter, and Mark Gindele, upon his return from Nashville to play out in support of the new disc.

All original members of Southern Junction have since left to pursue other interests but Derrick forged ahead sticking to the idea that when one door closes another door opens, Derrick has surrounded himself with professional musicians and the current lineup is the best it has ever been.

Derrick's solo disc earned the guys showcases at Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg PA in Feb. 2010 and Nashville as well as a spot at The Ohio State Fair 2010. Recently interviewed by FOX 19 as part of their FOX 19 in the Morning show, the band debuted songs from their upcoming release at Fountain Square in Cincinnati, Oh June 25, 2010 and opened for Toby Keith & Trace Adkins at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH AUG 27.

Other shows of highlight consist of The Ohio State Fair (Columbus, OH), Hamilton Co Fair (Cincinnati, OH) Goettafest (Newport, KY) and The Ohio Valley Country Showcase (Florence, KY) during the summer of 2010. They were also in the running to play at Country Stampede in Kansas.

Derrick is available individually for acoustic sets 7 days a week and Southern Junction are available for all occassions including; concerts, club events, festivals/fairs, corporate parties, fundraisers, and more. "Come See What All the Fuss is About"
