Descent to Daylight is a Progressive Hard Rock/Metal band from Great Falls, VA. The band was formed in early 2009 and emerged with a new blend of heavy music and a loyal following among the local scene.
Taking the best elements from 80's metal, 90's hard rock, and modern metal, Descent has created a unique and powerful sound that sets the band apart from other local artists. Descent's first album, Eclipse, ranges from radio friendly hard rock to metalcore with progressive elements. Powerful vocals, dueling guitar melodies, thundering bass lines, and progressive drumming are part of the signature sound that Descent has crafted.
Descent played their first show at the local bar Fat Tuesday’s just three weeks after getting started, and the band could instantly tell they were on to something unique. After recording their first four-song demo, they expanded their horizons (and venues) and things really started taking off. In the year since Descent to Daylight started, the band has performed relentlessly around the area and gained new friends and fans with every venture.
The band has played many venues around the area such as Fat Tuesday’s, Jaxx, The Firehouse, Jammin Java, and The Red and Black among others. They have played at several festivals including Rock the Dock, one of the largest local outdoor fests, and were asked to headline the next Rock the Dock fest by the promoters.
The bands lineup now consists of seasoned musicians from all over the country. Cory's previous project Whisper to Scream (Branson, Missouri Hard Rock) toured the midwest and released an album before Cory’s departure. David comes from progressive metal band Andsvara that enjoyed a local following obtained by opening for national acts. Paul, Nick, and Alex have worked on several previous projects together (F.A.T.E. - VA Metalcore, Martyr the Masses - VA Death Metal). Nick has toured the east coast playing with his other project Escape the Armada (VA Pop Rock), while Paul and Steele have toured with their previous band Aggromatic (VA Modern Rock).
