This gifted writer and storyteller strikes a chord by finding the commonality in us all as witnessed by her latest release, “Soul Back Jack.” A classy country girl, she always leaves you wanting more.

Biography

The emotion in Desiree's Dorion's newest song "Turn To Me" is palpable. It's a touching tribute to her 3 week old baby girl Grace. "We wrote the song with Gracie lying there in the room staring up at us" says Dorion. "I recorded the vocal holding Gracie and if you solo the track you can hear her softly crying at times in the background".

You might expect for a singer to take some time off after giving birth…but not Dorion. In her typical renaissance woman style, she was right back at it, writing and recording songs with Producer Arun Chaturvedi (Little Hawk, James Struthers, Keeping Up With The Kardashians) for her next release only weeks after giving birth. "I'm actually really excited" comments Dorion "Maternity leave from my day job as a lawyer will allow me the time I need to focus on writing and recording my new record."

The album will serve as the follow up to her critically acclaimed record "Soul Back Jack" which garnered her multiple awards and nominations including Best Country Album and Best Female Artist at the 2010 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, Best Country Artist at the 2010 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, Best Country Album at the 2011 North American Indigenous Image Award, Best Country Album at the 2011 Indian Summer Music Awards, and Best Country Album and Best Female Artist at the 2011 Native American Music Awards.

Honesty, emotion, and work ethic are some of the defining attributes of Dorion. These coupled with her gift for songwriting, and her versatile voice (at times reminiscent of greats like Dolly Parton) are what sets this young country crooner apart.

Lyrics

Soul Back Jack

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi

I'm sick and I'm tired
Of this run around
I got my high heels on
And I'm hitting the town

There was a time
When the thought of you
Was enough to keep me home
Crying the blues

Did you really think you could keep me down
I'm my mother's daughter you should know by now

Chorus
I got my soul back Jack
I ain't dead Fred
Nobody's takin' this from me
I've been gone too long
Now I'm where I belong
And I'm finally feelin' homefree
I'm going to attack
I got my soul back Jack

Two long
Wasted years
Now I'm wiping away
These maybeline tears

My hair
It looks just right
The boys are gettin whiplash
Cause my jeans are so tight

I got a new style and I got a new plan
You're not on my radar now understand

Chorus

Bridge
I threw away your cowboy hat
And every single artifact
My home won't be a museum of you

Chorus

Bad Outlaw

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Ray Martin

BEEN CLEAN NOW ABOUT 10 WEEKS
SO TIRED I CAN HARDLY BREATHE
GIVIN’ IN IS ALL I THINK ABOUT

I WAS DROWNING IN WHISKY AND TEARS
TOO FAR GONE TO EVEN CARE
AND BREAKING DOWN, SO CLOSE TO BREAKING DOWN

ALWAYS NEW I COULD MAKE IT IF I JUST QUIT DRINKING

CHORUS
CAUSE MAMA USED TO DO IT DADDY GOT HER INTO IT
AND THATS JUST THE WAY IT WAS
TRUTH DIDN’T MATTER MUCH THEN
BUT I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW IT DOES
I’M GONNA BREAK THIS CHAIN
I AIN’T GONNA LET THIS BOTTLE TAKE ME DOWN
LIKE A BAD OUTLAW
I’M GONNA RUN IT OUTTA TOWN

I GOT A JOB AND I’M GETTIN BY
THIS IS IT IT’S DO OR DIE
CAUSE I KNOW
I GOTTA KEEP MYSELF TOGETHER

I PRAY TO GOD TO SET ME FREE
DON’T LET THIS DEVIL GET THE BEST OF ME
NOT GIVIN UP, NO NEVER

I’M SICK AND I’M TIRED AND I WANT TO START LIVING

CHORUS

BRIDGE
I SAW THE SUN COMING UP TODAY
NEVER REALLY SEEN IT QUITE THIS WAY
I CAN FEEL A SMILE UPON MY FACE

CHORUS

Can't Have Me

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi & Jade Turner

WELL I DON’T KNOW WHERE WE WENT WRONG
BUT TIME’S A THIEF AND THE LOVE IS GONE
SO I’M MOVING ON
LIKE A CANDLE LEFT OUT IN THE RAIN
TEARS FELL DOWN AND PUT OUT THE FLAME
WHO’S TO BLAME

I’VE NEVER FELT SO ALONE
I DON’T KNOW WHERE I’LL GO

CHORUS
YOU CAN HAVE THE CLOCK ON THE WALL
BECAUSE WE’RE OUT OF TIME
YOU CAN HAVE THE PHOTOGRAPHS, THEY’RE BURNED INTO MY MIND
TAKE THE TRUCK AND THE CAR
THEY NEVER GOT ME FAR
OH BABY YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL
BUT YOU CAN’T HAVE ME

WELL MY BODY IS HERE BUT MY SPIRITS LOST
THAT JUST AIN’T WORTH THE COST NO
I KISS YOUR CHEEK MY CAB’S OUTSIDE
IT BREAKS MY HEART TO SEE YOU CRY
DON’T ASK ME WHY

DON’T BEG ME TO STAY
THIS IS THE ONLY WAY

CHORUS

BRIDGE
THERE’LL BE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS LIVING WITH REGRETS
WISHING WE COULD GO BACK BUT THERE’S NOTHING LEFT

CHORUS

Freedom Ain't Free

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi & Chris Burke-Gaffney

GRANDDADDY FOUGHT THE WAR BACK IN 43
SHOT UP ON THE BEACHES IN NORMANDY
YAH HE FOUGHT FOR ME
HE FOUGHT FOR PEACE

HE WAS JUST A BOY FORCED TO BE A MAN
AND EVEN A MAN COULDN’T UNDERSTAND
THE THINGS HE’D SEEN
BUT HE FOUGHT FOR PEACE

HE’S SEEN HURT AND HE’S SEEN PAIN
HE DRANK RYE TO KEEP THE GHOSTS AWAY
AND HE FOUGHT FOR PEACE

CHORUS
NOW I’M LIVING IN DAUPHIN
IN THE YARD THERE’S AN EVERGREEN TREE
I GOT A JOB AND I’VE GOT A GOOD HUSBAND
AND I REMEMBER FREEDOM AINT FREE
FREEDOM AINT FREE

GRANDADDY USED TO WAKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT
THINKING HE WAS STILL IN THE FIRE FIGHT
BACK IN NORMANDY
WHERE HE FOUGHT FOR PEACE

LYING IN PAIN IN ANOTHER MAN’S BLOOD
THINKING OF THE BODIES DEAD IN THE MUD
AND THE MEN THEY’D BEEN
WHERE THEY FOUGHT FOR PEACE

HE’S SEEN HURT AND HE’S SEEN PAIN
HE DRANK RYE TO KEEP THE GHOSTS AWAY
AND HE FOUGHT FOR PEACE

CHORUS

BRIDGE
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM

CHORUS

Don't Give up on Me

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi

I DREAM OF GOING TO NASHVILLE
TO MAKE A RECORD THAT I COULD SELL
AND PEOPLE WILL BUY
THEY’D COME FROM FAR AND WIDE

MY JOB WELL IT’S OKAY
BUT IF I COULD HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY
IN FEBRUARY
I’D PLAY THE GRAND OLE OPRY

MY MAMA ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT I COULD BE ANYTHING
SHE’D SAY

CHORUS
SING BABY SING
GO ON AND LET YOUR HEART RING
MONEY AIN’T THE MEANS
TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
I’VE TAUGHT YOU ALL YOU NEED
DON’T GIVE UP ON ME

I SEE WOMEN LIKE ME
MAKIN MUSIC WEARING ARMANI
AND ALL I’VE GOT
ARE THESE RIPPED UP JEANS

AND THE GIRLS THEY’RE ALL SO SKINNY
I OFTEN WONDER IF THEY EVEN EAT
I MAY ACTUALLY
HAVE TO LOSE TWENTY

MY MAMA ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT I COULD BE ANYTHING
SHE’D SAY

CHORUS

BRIDGE
I KNOW THE ROAD AHEAD WILL BE LONG
BUT I’LL PAY MY DUES TO SING MY SONG
I’M GONNA

CHORUS
SING BABY SING
SO YOU CAN HEAR MY HEART RING
MONEY AINT THE MEANS THE FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
THATS WHAT MY MAMA TAUGHT ME
DON’T GIVE UP ON ME

I'll Always Come Home (If I Can Come Home to You)

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi

WELL I’VE HAD MY SHARE OF REGRETS
DRANK ALOT OF BEER AND SMOKED TOO MANY CIGARETTES
I’VE DANCED ON THE BAR
I’VE TAKEN IT TOO FAR
BUT AT THE END OF THE NIGHT I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE

CHORUS
I CAME HOME WITH A BLACK EYE
FROM THE BUTCH AT THE BAR
I WAS FLAPPIN MY GUMS
AND I TOOK IT TOO FAR
YAH MY MAMA WAS CRAZY
NOW I’M CRAZY TOO
BUT I’LL ALWAYS COME HOME
IF I CAN COME HOME TO YOU

I GOT MESSED UP IN TEXAS
DRINKING BEER AND CLAMATO JUICE FOR BREAKFAST
I KNEW I WAS THROUGH
WHEN I COULDN’T FIND MY SHOE
I FELL DOWN THE STAIRS
AND I CRASHED INTO YOU

CHORUS

BRIDGE
SOMETIMES I STRAY
BUT YOU’LL ALWAYS REMAIN
MY ONLY LOVE AT THE END OF THE DAY

CHORUS

SO BABY DON’T YOU WORRY
I’M COMING HOME TONIGHT
DON’T WAIT UP FOR ME
JUST LEAVE ON A LIGHT
CAUSE I’VE BEEN OUT DRINKIN’
AND I’VE GOT ONE MORE ROUND
I PROMISE YOU HONEY
I WON’T LET YOU DOWN

REPEAT CHORUS

All I Need Is You

Written By: Bart Dupas, Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi

DOLCE AND GABANA MAKES ME YAWN
NEITHER OF THEM KNOW HOW TO TURN ME ON
YOU DON’T NEED A SUIT TO BE MY MAN
JEANS AND A T-SHIRT BAREFOOT IN THE SAND

SOME GIRLS LIKE GLITZ AND GLAMOUR
BUT HONEY THATS NOT ME

CHORUS
IN THE MORNING YOU’RE THE SUGAR IN MY COFFEE
YOU’RE THE SLIPPERS ON MY FEET
YOU’RE MY FAVOURITE SONG
I LOVE TO SING ALONG
EVERYTIME YOU LOOK AT ME
YOU CAN KEEP THAT BLING
WE’LL EAT AT BURGER KING
MONEY CAN’T BUY YOU
EVERYTHING THAT’S TRUE
ALL I NEED IS YOU

I’M OKAY WITH CHICKEN WINGS AND BEER
WE DON’T HAVE TO GO OUT LET’S STAY RIGHT HERE
ALL I WANT TO SPEND IS YOUR TIME
MONEY CAN’T COMPARE TO THAT LOOK IN YOUR EYES

I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE EIFEL TOWER
AND I’M COOL WITH SAFEWAY FLOWERS

CHORUS

BRIDGE
GOLD WILL TARNISH AND THE CAR WILL RUST
OUR CLOTHES WILL WEAR OUT AND THE BANK WILL GO BUST
BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, OUR LOVE REMAINS

CHORUS

Like I'm Gonna Love You

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Danny Schur

I cry, because I love you so bad
Then I smile, for the gift of your hand

I laugh, cause I don’t understand
How a love so perfect is in the palm of my hand

I didn’t ask for you ... but you still came to me

Chorus
If you lose your way
I’ll bring you home
When I’m to blame
I hope you’ll show
That you’re gonna love me
Like I’m gonna love you
Like I’m gonna love you

I’m amazed how you do this to me
Our love grows, so effortlessly

I’ll sing, from the depths of me
You’re the one, for eternity

I didn’t ask for you ... but you still came to me

Chorus

Bridge
When all those years have passed
Who knows where we’ll be
But I would rather die before
You’re not here with me

Chorus

Turn to Me

Written By: Desiree Dorion, Arun Chaturvedi & Bart Dupas

I hold you til you fall asleep
My little miracle right in front of me
Blissfully unaware
Of the complicated, crazy world waiting for you out there

I can't help but wonder what your future holds
As I tickle your feet and kiss your little nose

Chorus
When your whole world turns upside down
There's not a single friend to be found
You can turn to me
You can turn to me
When nothing else is turning out
And you're feeling small and full of doubt
You can turn to me
You can turn to me

I'll sign you up for little league
And put a bandaid on you when you scrape your knee
When some foolish boy breaks your heart
Remember you are beautiful just the way you are

I can't help but wonder what tomorrow will be
As your big brown eyes are looking up at me

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I wish that I could keep
You right here close to me
Forever selfishly

But I know there will come a day
When you'll have to find your way
Make your own mistakes

Repeat Chorus

Chorus #2
When you take a wrong turn down a dead end road
When you're stuck in a rut with nowhere to go
You can turn to me
You can turn to me

La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la

Promise

Written By: Desiree Dorion & Arun Chaturvedi

It's 4am
I've been crying all night
I know where you've been
But I don't have the strength to fight

Do you think of me
When you kiss her mouth?
Do you know that I've figured you out

You promised me your heart
You promised me never to lie
But you left me in a mess
Ever since you second guessed what you promised me
You said together we'd see the world
Have a boy and a baby girl
My friends made a bet
They said you'd forget what you promised me

I wanna know her name
I wanna see her face
I wanna meet the devil

Does she blow your mind
In the middle of the night
Like I did

Do you tell her that you'll love her
For the rest of your lives
Do you look her in the eye
And lie

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I wanna thank you for betraying
Cause I've found my way again
And my road it just don't lead to you
Now I'm in a better place
Cause when you left without a trace
I found someone so much better than you

Chorus #2
He promised me his heart
He promised me never to lie
He bought a diamond ring
yah he did everything that you promised me
Together we're seeing the world
We have a boy and a baby girl
I met him down the aisle yah he really makes me smile
Like you promised me

Repeat Chorus #2

I met him down the aisle yah he really makes me smile
Like you promised me
