Biography

Desmond is a classically-trained Acoustic Reggae/Soul Singer/Songwriter currently based in Brooklyn, New York who has been performing internationally for a number of years, touring the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean several times. His music combines jazz, gospel and rhythm & blues influences and focuses on lyrical storytelling and simple melodies with the emphasis being put on inspiring his audience. Desmond started out at the age of eight as a gospel music boy wonder, opening on tours around the Caribbean and North America for prominent gospel acts such as the Gospel Proclaimers and Sunshine Echoes. One ovation on one of those memorable occasions lasted for 10 minutes. Desmond got into Classical music in high school when he became baritone soloist for the world famous Kingston College Chapel Choir for several years, touring the Caribbean and North America with them several times in that capacity as well as in the capacity of Assistant Conductor. Desmond also spent 6 years playing principal roles in the musical theater productions of the Pantomime Company of Jamaica, which is Jamaica’s equivalent of Broadway. This took him on several tours around the Caribbean, to North America and to Europe where he was often singled out for special praise. Desmond also had a long stint as one of the foremost cabaret acts on Jamaica’s famous North Coast hotel circuit, which is where almost all the famous Jamaican performers such as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, honed their performing skills while they were under the radar of international renown. Desmond migrated to the United States in August 2004 and has since that time performed several times in Fredonia, NY, Rochester, NY, Miami, Fl, McKenzie, TN, Nashville, TN and here in New York City earning thunderous ovations at prominent venues such as Bar 4 in Park Slope, Brooklyn and at the Sidewalk Café in the East Village. He was actually booked to return to do a full length show the first time he showed up at the latter venue and sang 2 of his original compositions a capella at an open mike. This is unprecedented at this venue. This is typical of the reaction to his music around New York City and elsewhere. This is not bad for an artist who started taking the craft of songwriting seriously as recently as 1999.

Lyrics

Losers Never Win

Written By: Desmond & Shelly Moulton

Losers never win

As a boy I went to a game with my dad
We cheered as the winners got their trophies
I told him I want to be a winner real bad
I’m tired of being a loser and he told me this

Losing is in the mind and losers never win
It calls for lots of work and never giving in
Don’t lose the race before you begin
Cuz losing is in the mind and losers never win

As the years went by I trained really hard
I made the team and got my trophy too
I held it up and said this is my true reward
To become a real winner, Dad said I told you

(Repeat Chorus)

Everything you do will work out
Free your mind from the cage of self doubt, Cuz

(Repeat Chorus)

Makes Me Stronger

Written By: Desmond & Shelly Moulton

Makes Me Stronger

When we first met you promised me the world
I never thought it was too good to be true
Now I know you are not to be held to your word
I trusted you the way I tend to do

You think you're hurting me
But you're doing me a favor
All the wrong you do is all all right for me
Makes me stronger

I saw the signs that trouble loomed ahead
You changed from Doctor Jekyll to Mister Hyde
Call me naive but I'm sure that I was misled
What frightened me most was the way you lied

(Repeat Chorus)

I can't dwell on the fact that your promises were really empty
Because I'm oh so busy turning my dreams into reality

(Repeat Chorus)

No One

Written By: Desmond & Shelly Moulton

No One

You’ve got my attention with kindness
And you’ve shown me such forgiveness
I’m thankful for your honesty
Amazed with your humility.

No one understands me like you
No one loves me like you do
No one has your personality
You and your love were made for no one but me.

When I’m down you bring laughter
With your winning sense of humor
Never stopped caring about me
With you I am never lonely.

(Repeat chorus)

Took me a while to realize that you were right before my eyes
I thought I was searching in vain, you’re like the sunshine after the rain

(Repeat Chorus)
