"desmond the songwriter soon to be released debut album"

So whose down with a Reggae singer who is classically trained? What you are about to hear is different in every sense of the word. Desmond The Songwriter is truly his own man behind the microphone. Based in New Orleans, his voice is almost operatic, almost caberet and all heart.
The best single on his current EP is called "No One," as it combines this voice of his with traditionally rootsy Reggae, like back-in-the-day Trojan Reggae. When I first heard this I wasn't totally sure I liked it...I didn't know what to make of it...then I decided in short order that I loved it.
Desmond is a seasoned performer having toured the US, Europe and the Caribbean extensively, and it is without question he takes pride in himself and his music. If the ten tracks soon to be released are like the three on his EP, you can be sure you will be getting some seriously feel-good music. - Christopher Levine

"Desmond-Losers Never Win"

Reggae performer Desmond has taken his music all around the world. From Europe and the Caribbean all the way to U.S. locations such as New Orleans and Fort Worth, the singer has made a habit of having his music accepted wherever he goes.
On this EP, the singer gets a chance to show what he can do vocally, and it’s a pretty amazing thing. The opening title cut is one where he gets to show his love of the Reggae art form, and also shows his personal philosophy about keeping your chin up when things look at their bleakest.
Speaking of having deep personal strength, the singer exudes that phrase on the self-evident “Makes Me Stronger,” and the set finishes off with the excellent “No One.” With music this strong, I’ve got a feeling that 2012 could very welln be Desmond’s year! - Dan Harr

Sound Out Review

desmond is a roots-reggae singer/songwriter but he is not a Rasta; he is a Christian. He does not wear dreadlocks. He does not smoke weed or anything else. He is not homophobic. His last name is not Marley. In fact, he is not even sure who is father is, which is why he is just desmond. He is definitely not from one of the reggae families. He has only one daughter and only one wife. He is well over thirty and is yet to win any major awards or visit the Billboard charts. He has been living away from Jamaica for the last nine years. If there is any street cred left from all of this, he would have lost it for being a classically-trained musician.
In spite of all of this, he has sold 2,400 copies of his EP Losers Never Win which was released digitally and physically recently. There are major label reggae acts struggling to sell 2,000 CDs. He has been performing all over the United States, including the Apollo Theater in NYC which has been aired all over the world on BET/Centric. He has been getting good reviews and airplay from stations such as the Fatsa Fatsa Show, KTUH, and Indies in Motion. All of this has been done without the help of a booking agent, distributor, publicist, or record label. The EP features Pam Hall ("Dear Boopsie", Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, I-Threes, Toots Hibbert, Ziggy Marley) providing harmonies, Desi Jones (Jimmy Cliff, Monty Alexander, Ernie Ranglin) on drums, Leabert “Gibby” Morrison (Beres Hammond, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Toots Hibbert) and Donald Waugh (Chalice) on bass, Dennis Rushton (BET Jazz) on keyboards and Nicholas Laraque (Stephen Marley) on saxophone.
desmond, who hails from Kingston, Jamaica has sung gospel, classical and reggae music solo and in choirs professionally since he was eight years old. The musicians playing on the EP, which was recorded at Tuff Gong, Bob Marley’s studio in Kingston, Jamaica, represent the crème de la crème of the internationally renowned Jamaican reggae/pop/jazz scene.
