"The Onion Review"

Imagine the supremes getting done over by the N.E.R.D. boys and oodles of gushing press about their live shows we may have discovered the next Avalanches. Fantastic.

"In The Mix Review"

What we have here is an strikingly mature, at times touching debut release where an understated Detroit sentiment wins the day over brain numbing decadence. Think of the best moments from Felix’s Kittenz and the Glitz and mix in the intricate soundscapes of the Avalanches and you have in your hand one of the most original, interesting and thoughtful Australian releases this year. "Live Review"

The final act, Old Des Peres, could well have earned the title of my new favourite band! Their live show, completely unique and unprecedented, can only be described as an incredibly bizarre fusion of highly charged, rock’n' dance beats (typically Melbourne in flavour) wickedly matched with stolen, familiar samples (ala Avalanches) with the furor and frenzy of a Public Enemy meets James Brown Gospel Revival. Throw in the antics of a Machine Gun Fellatio stage show, the twisted (and often meaningless) sick humour of a Sodom Circus performance and a blender or two (no joke) and you've got the next big thing in live dance music! honestly, you gotta catch these folks live. - Inthemix

"Album Review"

Three Albums into their career, Melbourne’s Des Peres collective’s modus operandi remains the same – to stitch together sonic tapestries out of seemingly disparate sample sources which somehow coalesce into a cohesive whole, which works on the dancefloor. The Adventures of Cowboy and Miniman has ideas flying left right and center at an alarming rate. Opening track “Sudden Thought” sets the template for the remainder of the record. Massive orchestral stabs underpin musical flourishes straight out of Bewitched before a straightforward electro break chimes in underneath random horns and crowd chanting effects – all before the track hits the 30 second mark. It might sound like a dogs breakfast on paper, but crate digger extraordinaire Kynan Robinson’s attention to detail is nothing short of extraordinary, especially when the edgy female rap id broken up by an old crooner warbling “How did I get this far?” as the track trails off. Its this sort of creativity that fuels Des Peres’s latest album even when it’s at it’s most well, normal. Not that normal is ever a word you’d ever associate with the synthesised kazoos recalling Terence Trent D’arby’s “Wishing Well” on the retro soul of Dynamite” the Austin Powers soundtrack outtake “Little Man Falls Out Of The Sky” or drunken blues bar bossanova of “Get on the Bus”.
At Times dissonant, others confounding and always so densely layered another nuance will reveal itself on every listen, The Adventures of Cowboy and Miniman is one of the most startlingly original Australian electronica releases of 2008. And also one of the best.” (Gloria Lewis, Time Off Magazine 2008)

DES PERES

The kings of the sideways are back. With the release of their third album, The Adventures of Cowboy and Miniman (House of Pow/Amphead), and their subsequent national and international tour, Des Peres burst into the national psyche. Drawing on elements of hip hop, soul, jazz, funk, the blues, noise and being held with the glue that is Techno/Electro Des Peres have built a huge reputation for being, well quite unlike anything else.
There sound has been called "a raging mix of Parliament meets Talking heads with a good dose of Daft Punk thrown in for taste" (Reiff Magazine) and there live show is something to be experienced, always transporting you to a place just beyond where you thought you were.

OOOO AAAA DES PERES LIVE, how to describe it - there's Mr Ection preaching up a storm, Little Tom unleashing a wall of mystical sound from his guitar, Kelsey seducing with her sexy vocals that come from a time past, Des screaming abuse at his band while letting loose a thousands of samples laced with the funk that fills dance halls and all while pounding out solos on, yes A TROMBONE. But all this pales to nothing and hardly anyone notices because most eyes and ears are glued firmly on the being that comes from another place LUVA DJ. Think of all you know about the DJ and apply none of those thoughts here. A cross between Johnny Rotten and Princess Di. She spits out rhymes while tearing the stage apart.
Brilliant.
Des Peres live is a sure fire party starter and it will be a party like no other.

Consisting of some of Melbourne's most sort after musicians including Kynan Robinson (CW Stoneking, Adam Simmons Toy Band) Luva DJ, Kelsi James (Duck Musique) and Tom Bass, and with Cameos by Machines Translations, J Walker and Ned Collett, Des Peres new album is eagerly anticipated.
