KFC Pride 360 Pre-Grammy party featuring Destiny "Harpist from the Hood" @ Cinespace.

I attended the KFC Pride 360 Pre-Grammy party at Cinespace. This venue is huge and the turnout did not meet expectations. However, Destiny, a petite little woman held her audience captivated with her music that could only be described as coming from heavenly places, more so, than from the hood.

Destiny's quick butterfly fingers gliding across the harp to make heavenly soulful music was inspiring and soothing. (Photo Credit: TJ Photos)

Her angelic fingers trickled across the strings delivering an unforgettable celestial jazz sound. Destiny performed music sets right after the other with just a short break in between. I'm sure that news about this "Harpist from the Hood" will catch on.

Celebrity guests included Ernest Thomas, UNE' and record producer Carmela C. Martin. The event coordinator was warm and friendly and offered a complimentary beverage and refill. I enjoyed Destiny's performance very much and was glad to be able to hear it without all the chatter that is usually generated in a nightclub setting. If you hear that Destiny is performing in-town do check her out. She will not disappoint.

Destiny Muhammad
Harpist and Vocalist
To say Destiny is a uniquely talented artist is a severe understatement. Both harpist and vocalist, Destiny enjoys a flourishing music career as the demand for her distinctive brand of stirring music and vocals continues to grow.

Although she started playing the harp just 12 years ago, Destiny currently rewrites classic recordings specifically for the harp and creates original pieces of her own. She initially became interested in playing the harp as a child but it was a trip to Belgium as an adult that inspired her to receive formal training and pursue a career as a professional harpist.

"I heard an album featuring the Kora while I was there and I was just mesmerized by the sound." Soon after, she began taking harp lessons and is now widely known for what she refers to as her "acoustic-jazz-classical" style. Destiny has performed::

Concert for World Peace with Jazz Trumpeter Eddie Gayle, Triplett Harp Show Case at the Annual Somerset Folk Harp Fest in Somerset, New Jersey, a concert collaboration of the music of John Coltrane and Elvin Jones at Yoshi’s Jazz Club, Ghetto Chamber Music with legendary Jazz Trumpeter, Khalil Shaheed a performances at the. Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA, Agape International Spiritual Center‘s "Revelation" conferences, The American Red Cross Annual Martin Luther King Breakfast.

2004 found Destiny on a six week Summer "Friends and Family Tour 2004" for Harpist From The Hood / Triplett Harp Co.

Alkebu-lan Books and Records. One of many highlights was an on
the spot jam session at the African American Museum in Detroit, Michigan. She has also been a featured workshop instructor for the Bay Area Folk Harp Society as well as a local library tour for the San Francisco Libraries.

Destiny established a new Harp presence at the NAMM 2005 show with Triplett Harps new 38-string Acoustic-Electric Eclipse Harp. This harp was custom made for Destiny out of all Bubinga wood from Africa with electric components by Highlander Musical Audio Products.

Destiny has shared her therapeutic music at Alameda, Alta Bates Tacoma General and Kaiser Permenete Hospitals. Other events include 100 Black Women Awards
Luncheon, The Black Choreographers Conference and Destiny’s live performances with her band "A Band of Angels", MASALA a new vision for touch and sound and her string collaboration
S.O.N.G Strings of a Nubian Groove. Destiny is a member of the
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Bay Area Folk
Harp Society, the American Harp Society and A S C A P and is
also endorsed by Triplett Harp Company.

Destiny Muhammad’s most memorable experience was performing for Iyanla Van Zant Destiny’s original song, ‘The Presence’ Since being discovered by Grammy Award Winner D’wayne Wiggins, President of Grass
Roots Entertainment, Destiny has found the creative and professional backing she needs to touch listeners around the world. in her debut album, "My Quest" has been well received and we re hoping for even a broader audience with the release of her new work "The Presence".

It’s clear this gifted artist is destined to share her uplifting musical journey with the masses . "Destiny’s music has commercial appeal with a very
tranquil spiritual element to her sound that listeners are enchanted by."--D’wayne Wiggins.
