"Detagoh rocks Rockford"

Two things that go together all too well are music and motocross. This is why Rockford Arenacross is the perfect event. The Saturday Early Entry party will feature a hot Chicago based band – Detagoh.

Detagoh (pronounced Day-TAH-go) was formed in Cleveland, OH by PJ Anderson and John Pacini in 1999. Relocating to Chicago, Anderson and Pacini were quickly joined by some of Chicago’s top musicians helping to create an original sound that is hard to categorize. Drawing from many different styles of music including pop, Latin, blues and jazz, Detagoh has begun to build a following in the college and young adult audience enabling them to play to packed clubs throughout Chicago.

Now Rockford gets a taste of Detagoh, via Arenacross at the MetroCentre. December 3rd, from 1:30-4:30, Detagoh will be on stage rockin’ it out, while the top professional arenacross riders will be practicing in the dirt.

It’s a festival not to be missed and the only thing you need is a Saturday evening tickets and an Early Entry Pass. Tickets are available at centreevents.com, or at the MetroCentre box office and tune in to WXRX for more details on the Early Entry Pass or pick up your own Early Entry Pass the day of the event at the box office for just $5.

The low down: Metrocentre. National Arenacross series, December 2-4, 2005. Kids seats are just $5!

More details to come on the Detagoh Arenacross After Party!

"This is Why I Review Music - Great Chicago Band"

I'm sure there's a saying in our culture that's about the happiness received when you find something great and you weren't even looking for anything in particular.

This past weekend, while transitioning between the happy world of tailgaters into the world of Chicago White Sox fans inside U.S. Cellular Field (currently, a very unhappy world), I heard a band wrapping up a song a few hundred feet away. Instead of heading into Gate 3, the wife and I decided to walk over to figure out what was going on. At that point, Detagoh was introduced to my universe.

When the universe is kind enough to bring me something like the music of Detagoh, it reminds me to be nice to the universe. To plant a tree. Take public transportation. Recycle. You get the point.

Detagoh is a breath of fresh air in a very polluted music universe. In a landscape that too often contains pre-packaged bands and carbon copies of sound, this band carves its own niche into the musical landscape with its original sound and well-crafted songs. There are bands that use violin. There are bands that use the harmonica. None that I’ve heard combine them with the rest of a rock band so well. Either the harmonica or violin can maintain the melody so important to each Detagoh song, and either can easily step to the front of the band and really stand out in a particular song.

Given the tools at its disposal, Detagoh easily makes the transition from an upbeat song into something a bit slower. This is where the makeup of the band is a tremendous strength, as either the violin or harmonica can carry an upbeat or a melancholy tune. All the talk of these two instruments should not take away from the talent of the rest of the band, all very talented in their own right.

As the band finished a song, I was ready to approach and ask if there was any way to get my hands on some of their music. Turns out, they were ready for everyone like me and had a free copy of six of their songs. Each of these songs can be used as a counterpoint to the argument that there is not good, new music out there; that no one under 40 knows how to craft a piece of art in the music genre anymore.

Because I’m so amazingly impressed by this band, they’ve become my new musical cause. My close friends know when I find a band that I really thing has something that needs to be shared, I pester and nag until each of them has given them a shot. I’m going to push the heck out of this band, because it deserves it. The universe deserves more Detagoh.

Relocating to Chicago, Anderson and Pacini were quickly joined by some of Chicago’s top musicians helping to create an original sound that is hard to categorize. Time Out Chicago says, "What amazes us about Detagoh is that two instruments as dissimilar as the violin and harmonica can coexist in the same band without getting in each other's way."

A young group of "veterans," Detagoh has landed many high profile gigs including opening act for Rusted Root at House of Blues in December 2007 and opening act for Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers at Loyola University Chicago in 2005. Detagoh demands your attention as they incorporate catchy, original music with clever, crowd-pleasing covers that energize audiences.

Detagoh has performed at Chicago's premier music venues including: Martyrs, Double Door, Cubby Bear, House of Blues and many more.

Detagoh has also been part of Chicago's famouse Taste of Chicago and multiple Clear Channel Entertainment's Monster Truck and Arena Cross tours.

Drawing from the diverse musical experience of each band member Detagoh has a full, deep, unique sound that is hard to classify. With their latest release “Fly to June” voted top 5 release of 2005 by I-Rock-Radio, Detagoh delivers a diverse blend of musical styles without ever sacrificing the catchy-club and radio-ready music.
