An aspiring songwriter/producer is creating quite a buzz in the streets of Chicago,
IL. His name is Deteze, also known as Deontay Bowens. In 2005, he released a
mix tape entitled "Harvey's Finest, Vol.1", and to this day, you can still hear its
distant sound peculating throughout the city blocks. Harvey, IL is Deontay’s birth
town, and in this mix tape, he does them proud by reppin’ his hood to the fullest.
However, this is just a teaser for Deteze’s debut solo album, which is due to drop
in mid 2006. Meanwhile, to feed his hungry fans, Deteze is dropping Vol. 2 of his
mix tape in early 2006.
These accomplishments did not occur overnight; they were a culmination of over
eight years of hard work, persistence, and struggle. Deontay’s initial interest in
music developed from hearing his brother and cousin constantly playing hip-hop
music around the house. While listening to such artists as Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z,
and Dr. Dre, he was inspired to write his own rhymes. Battle rap sessions
became a daily routine in his household. Even today, his brothers’ brutal honesty
about his material has pushed him to become a better at his craft.
Deteze’s first performance was in a local hotel where he worked at the time. After
conquering his initial fear of performing in front of an audience, he experienced a
rush of adrenalin that made him feel like a different person on stage. Since then,
Deteze has participated in open mics and networking showcases all over the
Chicago area.
Deteze began producing beats not long after he started rapping. While his early
tracks were not his best work, he has developed his technical knowledge and he
uses it to mix his tracks to perfection. By owning a professional home studio, he
is able to turn his ideas into reality much faster than going to outside studios.
Deteze is seeking a major label deal in the form of distribution or financial
support in order to expand his fan base. He feels that by having his own studio
and the ability to professionally record his sound, he would be an asset to the
label. His songs have universal appeal because he stays true to the music, unlike
many other rappers are only concerned about staying true to the streets. Deteze
is not afraid to laugh and have fun. When you play his songs, you will hear a
whole spectrum of emotions and feelings, and he still maintains his street
credibility.
On a personal level, Deontay Bowens is the proud father of two beautiful
children. He is a passionate artist striving to be heard, seen, and respected for
his talent and ability to communicate the realities of his world to people in similar
situations. He dreams to be one of the music industry’s top producers/recording
artists, and hopes to someday branch off to run his own major record label. You
