After years of performing with the touring house-party hip-hop band, Parallax, Tyler Jon packed his bags and ventured to Portland, OR to start a new life with his girl and his dog Duke. Armed with just a tight-knit family, his guitar and a couple pedals, Tyler Jon began his new project, Device Grips, a new testament to progressive, genre-breaking styles of art.
The idea behind Device Grips is not simply to create music, its to create a point of view- DON'T LIMIT TO A CATEGORY, WE ARE MORE.
Whether described as a rapper, blues-artist, indie-rocker, or funk-master, Tyler Jon's unique mix of hip-hop, blues, reggae, and grunge set him apart as a songwriter and genre-bending pioneer. His raps are blunt and personal, sharing intimate stories of regret, self-humility, social awarness, and accomplishment. His craftsmanship is rare, finger-picking his guitar licks, and layering them on top of funky bass lines, analog synths, and live beatboxing.
Fans of Gorillaz, The Beastie Boys, Atmosphere, and 311 will dig the show and originality.
