Bio

Devin was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Guthrie and Edmond area and graduated from Edmond High School. Devin was introduced to music at a very young age due to his father being in the music business. After graduation, he decided that music was his life and his dream. He began singing at private parties, clubs, state fairs, and PRCA rodeos that took him from state to state.

In 1994, Devin was fortunate enough to get to go to Nashville, Tennessee. In the beginning, his trip focused on learning the business, however when he got there, a little more happened than expected. He sang at the Wild Horse Saloon in downtown Nashville in a pro-am contest where he won first place! Then he began singing in other contests where he won more awards. He decided to hire a band and go on the road. After a few years of traveling in a pickup truck, pulling a trailer and sleeping in motels and the truck, Devin decided it was time to get serious about his career and buy a tour bus. Devin said, "I don’t take what God has enabled me to do for granted. He gave me a voice to sing and a heart willing to do what I know is my calling. When I bought my first tour bus, it was to show people that I am serious about what I’m doing."

Devin Derrick plays a wide variety of events and venues and has been the opening act for:

Blake Shelton, Tracy Byrd, Blackhawk, Alabama, Doug Stone, Chely Wright, Reba, Tracy Lawrence
Mark Chestnut, David Allen Coe......and many other entertainers through out the years and even appeared in Toby Keith's video " A Little Less Talk, Alot More Action."

In 2002, Devin was in Nashville when one of Johnny Cashs’ Reps. approached him and asked for a demo Cd and so Devin gave him one. After 4 years of traveling the country went by, then to Devin’s surprise, in Aug. of 2006 he got a phone call from the same Rep. He told Devin to be expecting another phone call soon with good news. Well, while he was on tour in New Mexico, Devin received the long anticipated phone call that to him seemed like the clouds parted and more than the sun was shining down on him when he discovered that it was Johnny Cashs’ son, John Carter Cash, asking Devin to come to the Cash Cabin Studio in Nashville because he wanted to produce Devin’s Cd. As so many singers await the chance of a lifetime, Devin knew this was the chance that he had been striving for all these years. Devin's answer was more than a yes. Devin went to Nashville and met John Carter Cash and the crew. They went through a vast and vigorous song selection and narrowed it from over 100 down to 12 songs.

On the new Cd is a song written by Johnny Cash himself for his wife June Carter called “Lady’ that has never been recorded by anyone other than Cash himself until now on Devin’s new Cd. When you here this incredibly written song, you will feel Johnny Cashs’ heartfelt lyrics being delivered by Devin’s soulfully grasping voice that makes you believe why it was written and reborn again in this recording.

Devin was very surprised when John Carter Cash asked him to record this song. Devin said “ It was a complete honor when John Carter asked me to record it. There are no words to completely describe the aura that was being felt in the studio. It was as if Johnny’s spirit had filled the room like he was really there…..really. A feeling I had never experienced before, but I have been experiencing it everyday since.”

The songs on this Cd were played by very well known session players such as Robby Turner who played steel and dobra for the late Waylon Jennings. Jaime Hartford, the son of the late John Hartford, played lead and rhythm guitar on the movie “Walk The Line” also played lead guitar, rhythm and mandolin on this Cd. Rick Lonow, who played on Alan Jackson’s recordings, played drums and percussion. Tony Harrell who plays on most recordings on Nashville’s top charted artists, played keyboard. John Carters wife, Laura Cash, who played with the Carter Family played fiddle. Dave Roe, who played on recordings such as Keith Whitley, Don Williams and Trisha Yearwood, played bass guitar. Harry Stinson, who is Marty Stewart’s drummer and back-up vocalist sang back-up vocals. Devin would like to thank all of these extremely talented individuals who have honed their craft into something that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

This Cd project displays the writers and singers emotions through instruments and vocals that demands the lending of ears and opinions from not one, but all who hears it.

Devin said “ I wish to thank everyone who endures with me the ups and downs of my career. From the day I was born with the gift of breath to give back through songs, even past the day I stop breathing, I owe more than just myself.”
