“Doherty's songs evoke a variety of emotions, which I find rare with a lot of current music." -Brendan Morgan (Time-Out New York contributor)

Biography

I've been writing songs for a long time. Since I was a little kid in fact. One of my many older brothers had a guitar and I picked it up from him. no lessons so I started to write songs straight away with whatever new chords I was learning on my own.
My Father had an RV when I was younger and every spring my parents a couple siblings and I would make the trip from New York to Florida to visit my Grandparents.
I come from a large family. Five brothers, two sisters and my parents. I'm the youngest.
Undoubtedly, I've was introduced to some great music at a very young age that continues to play a role in my own songwriting.

Devin Doherty is recognised for writing well structured, rolling and honest music.
His songwriting has been compared to Bob Dylan and Neil Young by the Brooklyn Heights Courier as well as Wilco by the Grammy/Award winning producer, Joe Ferry. He recently landed gigs opening for contemprary mainstays Freedy Johnston and Vance Gilbert and Doherty's music has found a home at The Livingroom and Lakeside Lounge in NYC. Production has begun on his second CD; A full length album scheduled for release 2009.

Lyrics

I'm Gone

Written By: Devin Doherty

I’m leaving
My humble abode
The place I’ve always known
I’m leaving I’m going on
And darkness
Do not follow me
And trouble please leave me be
I am leaving I will be free
But I’m so down, yeah I’m so down
Won’t you come with me right now
And I can see a better way
No thick air to bring us down

And goodbye to you
All my friends and all my loved ones
And although we’ve had some good ones
Well I know I must move on
But I’m so down, yeah I’m so down
Won’t you show me the way to go
And I’m so hurt, yeah I’m so hurt
But my love goes burning on
And I’m gone

And I’m so down yeah I’m so down
Won’t you come with me right now
And I feel strange and I’m scared of things
But I know I must go on
And I’m gone

The Things I Do For You

Written By: Devin Doherty

I don’t know why I’m going away
All that I know is that I can not stay
The sun it does shine through this dusty old shade
And I feel now that I must go away
And I don’t know why I do
The things I do for you
La, da, da, da, da….

Why must I go running through this damn old town
All that I do is just track you down
And why must I try so damn hard for your love
All that I do is just take what you shove
And I don’t know why I do
The things I do for you
La, da, da, da, da….

I don’t know why I do what I do
After all it means nothing to you
Still I compromise and give in again
To your lies when I know we’ve reached the end
And I don’t know why I do
The things I do for you
La, da, da, da, da….

Breakdown

Written By: Devin Doherty

I’ve spent many days and nights
Thinking about you
And I can’t decide what’s right
Or what I’m gonna’ do
And I try to give the best advice
My will allows me to
But everyone must pay the price
When they see the truth

So breakdown my hard one
I know we’re moving on
All I see is beauty
The beauty lingers on

Now you once loved a girl
Her name was angeline
And she gave you everything
You just gave her pain
Now I’ve spent many days and nights
Thinking about this
And I can’t decide what’s right
Or if it can be fixed

So breakdown my hard one
I know we’re moving on
All I see is beauty
The beauty lingers on

Gettin' On

Written By: Devin Doherty

well the town that you grew up in
has somehow grown too small
you've seen everybody doing things
that you never could have thought
and the last time that you went looking
you found nothing else to do
'cept to skip stones on the pavement
and to think of a girl for you

chorus:
now your never coming back again
hit the road never to return my friend
on the open highway to a better time
you just left all the shit behind you
and your gettin' on

well they'll cut you or they'll steal you
well they'll bury you with time
and all the money has been so tight
but at least you feel alive
and all the girls that you used to make love to
they've all gone and taken pearls
its so strange to walk these streets at night
it's so strange without your world

chorus

Well your going back to memphis
when the spring returns again
gonna' talke those streets all by yourself
your gonna' be the free born man

chorus

Something Good

Written By: Devin Doherty

chorus:
everybody wants something good
anybody take it if they could
you know better than to think it comes for free
live your life like a loaded die
they'll flip you up and they'll throw you to the side
take your chance just to make it one more night

my granddad was a farmer
he cut the peat from bog
well he left home in 1922
coming down through canada
like so many others
looking for a life that he never knew
and like the old ones say
everything must have it's seed
and we make changes for the better
you'd just about risk anything
for some things of worth to you
you just might lose your fly to something better

everybody wants something good
anybody take it if they could
you know better than to think it comes for free
live your life like a loaded die
they'll flip you up and they'll throw you to the side
take your chance just to make it one more night

Now living on everything
I've ever learned in the past
I try to fit the pieces like toung and tenon
but it's like my chisels dull
and I've got some splinters left
but I'll keep on going I'll keep on working still
and I did not now where I was going to
till you came around with your brown eyes
and now every time, every time I look at you
I know one more reason I must try

everybody wants something good
anybody take it if they could
you know better than to think it comes for free
live your life like a loaded die
they'll flip you up and they'll throw you to the side
take your chance just to make it one more night
