"DEVIN THERRIAULT"

Are you sick and tired of the same old, same old? With singer-songwriters saturating the current music scene and dominating everything from the charts to the NME Cool List, the monster's on a keen prowl for noise at the moment.

Devin Therriault offers the perfect solution - the Brooklyn based musician sits somewhere between Buddy Holly and Iggy Pop. His peculiar blend of 60s pop and garage rock is more than just an attractive prospect - it's essential. - Drunken Werewoldf Magazine (UK)

"THAT DON'T SOUND LIKE NO FUN AT ALL"

RECENTLY, MY ATTENTION HAS BEEN DRAWN ACROSS THE ATLANTIC TO BROOKLYN (COURTESY OF THE LOVELY LIZZY OF NEON GOLD), WHERE A HIP YOUNG GUNSLINGER BY THE NAME OF DEVIN THERRIAULT IS CURRENTLY MAKING ALL KIND OF WAVES ON THE ALL-AGES LIVE CIRCUIT.

LIKE A THROWBACK TO THE AGE OF BEEHIVES, JIVES AND NEWLY FOUND SEXUAL FREEDOM; DEVIN'S SOUND HAS CLASSIC ROCK & ROLL STAMPED ALL OVER IT, AND ALTHOUGH SEEMINGLY A SPECIALIST IN HUGELY CATCHY CHORUSES UPON FIRST GLANCE, IT'S HIS LYRICAL INTRICACIES THAT REALLY SET HIM APART FROM THE CROWD.

HIS ENERGETIC AND SEXUALLY CHARGED LIVE SHOW HAS ALREADY GARNERED THE INTEREST OF THE NY INDIES AND ONLY YESTERDAY HE WAS SHARING THE STAGE WITH THE LIKES OF THE BOOKS, SURFER BLOOD AND DJ RUPTURE AT THE CULTURE SHOCK FESTIVAL AT SUNY PURCHASE IN BROOKYLN.

FOR A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME, HERE'S THE ANTHEMIC I DON'T THINK I. (SINGING ALONG IS NOT OPTIONAL, IT'S OBLIGATORY.)

"DEVIN THERRIAULT Played Public Assembly (pics)"

Devin Therriault, who we profiled before CMJ, played Pete's Candy Store on 10/19 and Public Assembly on 10/21 as part of the Neon Gold/Chess Club Records CMJ Showcase. The shows were some of Devin's first with a new band.

I was able to see his set at Public Assembly and of the incarnations of Devin's band that I've seen, his new drummer is the hardest hitting. That also helped it be the loudest Devin show I've seen yet (almost too loud for Public Assembly's PA), but that's exactly how Devin's brand of rock and roll should be. The Wild Honey Pie was there:

"Vintage rocker Devin Therriault seemed to especially rev up the female contingent. Dressed in pressed on black denim with a sort of low slung black holster belt, red and white stripe button up, and meticulously slicked and curled hair, Therriault gave off a vibe that bridged the gap between the 50's slickster and the first wave punker. At one point, as he gyrated his hips and leaned dramatically into his guitar digs, the girl behind me physically tried to move me aside so that she might have an unobstructed view of this mainline rock Casanova."

And speaking of rock and roll, as Devin hit his last chord in the set, his drummer kicked the kit out from in front of him and walked off the stage. More pictures from the show below... - Brooklyn Vegan

"A Spotlight On DEVIN THERRIAULT"

Brooklyn singer-songwriter Devin Therriault (pronounced "theory-alt") is making two appearances at the CMJ Music Marathon. Devin and his live band, The Little Angels, are headlining Pete's Candy Store on Tuesday, October 19 and also playing the Neon Gold/Chess Club Records CMJ Showcase at Public Assembly on Thursday, October 21. Flyer for the latter below.

Devin combines the sounds of '50s rock and roll groups and '60s girl groups with the intensity of punk and garage rock to create catchy songs with a feeling of familiarity. However, he still puts his own spin on every song. Therriault's flamboyant stage presence mixed with his passionate vocal delivery make his performances extremely memorable. His energetic antics recall those of Iggy Pop and New York Dolls era David Johansen, while maintaining his own on-stage personality.

Therriault finished up a home demo in late 2009, on which he recorded all instrumental and vocal parts on his own. Two of these tracks, "You're Mine" and "I Don't Think I" are available for free download above.

Bio

DEVIN THERRIAULT's demo track "I Don't Think I" drew rave reviews from international blogs creating attention from record labels and publishers. A new live single including "You're Mine" and "Thing On My Mind" will be the first single released through the "Live at The Studio at Webster Hall" live 45 series by the end of 2010.

Drawing from '50s rock & roll, '60s girl groups, Iggy Pop and other theatrical front men, Devin delivers fun, rhythmic rock with a classic sound that makes audiences want to move. His emotional vocals and intense stage presence interspersed with revealing, funny ad-libs between songs keeps audiences guessing and wanting more. But what really sets Devin apart from his peers is his powerful songwriting which is full of catchy hooks and intricate, unique lyrics.

Music lawyers Elliot Groffman (US) (Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam, Jay-Z) and Nicky Stein (UK) (Vampire Weekend) have agreed in an unusual move to co-represent Devin.

Devin Therriault wrote, arranged and recorded the attached demos in his Brooklyn apartment. In these demos, Devin plays all instruments and sings all vocals. In the Fall of 2009, Devin formed the band Devin and the Little Angels to perform these songs on stage. The Little Angels were embraced by all-ages fans at classic venues Shea Stadium, Webster Hall and The Mercury Lounge.

Playing with top New York bands like the So So Glos, Devin also created a buzz on the college circuit. Devin was selected to play at the Culture Shock Festival at SUNY Purchase College, the college's biggest drawing event of the year, where he played alongside Bayside, Jay Electronica, The Books, Surfer Blood and many more.

Devin has now put together a new band that had an extremely successful debut at the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC playing with The Postelles, The Knocks and more. UK and US major and indie labels turned out in droves for his CMJ performances. Savvy UK booking agent David Exley (The xx) said Devin was the best live act at CMJ and now represents Devin outside North America. With buzz building, especially in the UK, the influential Brooklyn Vegan blog spotlighted Devin as one of CMJ's highlights.

Devin just completed his first tour to Los Angeles playing with Swedish group Peter, Bjorn & John and San Francisco's Ty Segall.

DEVIN THERRIAULT has been selected to play his first South By Southwest Festival in March 2011.
