Bio

One night in the winter of 2004, Devon Heath sat at his home outside of Austin contemplating his future in the music business. Asleep in the room down the hall was his nine month old daughter. Sitting across the table was his wife of 5 years, tears streaming down her face. Twenty-seven years of dreaming, ten years of gigs, two records, countless late nights writing and rewriting songs- all came down to this cold winter night and a conversation with the one person whose opinion really mattered.
December was coming to a close and the delusiveness of his prediction from a year ago was sinking in- it hadn’t been his year. There was no money in the bank, no shows were booked, no record in the works. The woman who for so many years had weathered the hard times, given her unwavering support- the one person who had never stopped believing- was on the brink of giving up. And Devon himself wasn’t far behind. The baby down the hall deserved a better life than this.
“If you’re married, and you’re trying to make it in this business, you count on your wife to pick you up when you’re down. And you have to be there to pick her up when she’s down. At least one of you has to be up at any given time. That night we were both feeling pretty down on the whole thing,” Devon recalls. “We talked for a long time without really coming to a decision on whether or not I should find another way to make a living. It was probably the most stressful, serious, depressing night of our marriage. I finally went upstairs for some therapy.”
“Therapy” for Devon, like most songwriters, meant picking up a guitar and writing. In less than ten minutes, “Give it to Me Straight” was born.
“I made up my mind right when I finished the song. I wasn’t going to quit. I played it for my wife the next morning and I knew I had her support before I finished singing. It was a powerful thing.”

Two years later, Devon's commitment is starting to pay off. His new CD, "Give it to Me Straight", is set for release in the summer of '07, and shines with obvious growth as a songwriter, player, and performer.
"That one night is what this whole project was built on. I thought it made perfect sense to make "Give it to Me Straight" the title track. What that song represents to me, personally, is just so powerful. It really puts "success" into perspective, and it has played a major part in changing my whole vision of what I want and how to go about getting it, without sacrificing what matters most to me- my family."
