Dewinter - The Close of Summer EP

Bio

It was the late Winter of 2009. Three friends sat together in silence one Friday evening after a four mile night run. Music had always played a large role in each of their lives but the tiresome and redundant placidity of routine and complacency had taken it's toll on their lives and, subsequently, their time. They knew this routine far too well, it's effect was beginning to be made apparent.
"Anyone can take up music as a hobby", claims Bo King, one of the founding members of DEWINTER. "But to be in a 'band' takes real and unwavering dedication and sacrifice. Today it's extremely hard to come by musicians that have a passion for their craft and who are also willing to make the necessary sacrifices it takes to progress as a band."

Each of the friends had given much of their time and energy in different Southeast Texas bands to see them all eventually run their course. "There's a real itch that starts when you've been out of the game for a while", says King. "The more you fight it, the worse it gets. Eventually you can only do one thing. Get back in, one way or another." And so Bo suggested the three start a new musical project - just for fun - just to pass the time. DEWINTER was born. (Bo King - Lead Vocals, Guitars and Keys, Jonathan Jordan - Drums and Percussion, Trevor Koonce - Lead Guitars, and Daniel Carpenter - Bass and Keys)

The band agreed to spend what little free time they had working on a few songs to play in local coffee shops over the next summer. Rehearsals began immediately and the three decided to recruit some other local musicians. "We really begin to look at the band differently the first time Trevor (lead guitarist of DEWINTER) showed up to practice", says Jonathan Jordan - drummer. Daniel Carpenter was also recruited and DEWINTER was complete. Through the course of the next few months DEWINTER began to take shape. It became quite clear that this new musical endeavor was going to be more than just a simple weekend coffee shop outfit. An initial set of 3 or 4 songs were in making when the band scheduled their first show at The Barking Dog, one of Beaumont, Texas' premier young venues.

And on June 27, 2009 DEWINTER played their first show to a crowd of over 150 people who had never heard or seen the band. "The response was so much more than we were expecting", King says. "Our fans are incredible and we would never have made it past those first few uneasy shows without their encouragement and support."

A month later, the Southeast Texas region saw the release of DEWINTER'S debut EP - The Close of Summer containing three songs from their growing arsenal. "The EP was really just something for us to give back to the fans - a way to get the music out there and into the people's hands. We never really expected the band to outlast that first summer" But it did and the freshman EP received a very positive regional reception and was hailed as a sincere debut effort by a young southern alternative outfit trying to make their way in a very unforgiving genre that frowns upon musical diversity.

Since that time, DEWINTER has matured quickly and began to extend their reach outside of the Southeast Texas region playing more and more in central and northern Texas including the Dallas/Forth Worth metroplex and Austin. Plans for a new album are in the works as well as talks of an early Winter 2010 tour. With a growing list of Texas dates under their belt, the band is taking more steps forward and working to expand into the surrounding states and beyond.

Exemplifying a new and exciting sound that incorporates classic rhythm and blues with electronic beats, ambient backdrops, and various types of percussive elements along with a modernistic touch, DEWINTER aims to be a sound that you will remember long after the final notes have faded away.
