Music 2002, The Year in Review. Dec. 29/02<br><br>excerpt:<br>"And, of course, memorable performances by locals like Tim Balash & the Chrome Magpies, Rick Buckner, .... Corb Lund, Carson Cole, .... Choke, Mr. Relaxer, Painting Dasies, Deep Fine Grind, Ben Sures, Rusty Reed, Las Vegas Cryptkeepers and Robin Hunter." - Fish Griwkowsky
Deep Fine Grind was the first to play at Ookfest 2002. Unfortunately it was only 5:30 pm when they started playing, there was a lack of crowd. Despite this setback, Deep Fine Grind played an admirable round of modern rock songs.
Deep Fine Grind played songs from their album 'Stories Told.' Their set was all about hard rock and head nodding. The hard rock songs are perfect for moshing.
During their set, the band treated the crowd to some straight instrumental music with superb playing by all four members, complete with great guitar riffs. The band encouraged people to talk to them after their set. As Mike said, "we're not mean people at all, we're all nice guys!" - NAIT Student

Bio
The lights go down, the amplifiers begin to hum, and that is when Deep Fine Grind comes smashing through with their brand of hard rock. The sound is a raging whirlpool of energy, incorporating influences such as Tool, Deftones and Filter.
Deep Fine Grind was originally formed by Michael Nascimento (vocals, guitar), Brad Herbert (guitar) and Craig Thesen (bass, vocals) in 2000. They were later joined by drummer Andrew Narten in 2001. Since their formation in 2000, Deep Fine Grind has played in numerous venues across Alberta. A few of their highlight shows include opening for Edwin & The Pressure at Red’s, West Edmonton Mall, NAIT’s 2002 & 2003 Ookfest with Default, opening for Bif Naked at Nashville’s, West Edmonton Mall, Stage 13, Camrose, AB, with bands such as Third Eye Blind, Three Days Grace, Trooper, and Cheap Trick, two dates with the Headstones in July 2003 and playing with Trapt and Out of Your Mouth at the Joint in West Edmonton Mall. Another of Deep Fine Grind’s greatest accomplishments was the recording and release of their debut album “Stories Told” in March 2002. The eleven track independent album was record at Braindead Digital with Cam Ambrose. Since then, two additional songs have also been recorded in November, 2003, also at Braindead Digital. Both the album and the additional two songs were self-recorded by Deep Fine Grind to ensure that the integrity of the music was not compromised.
Deep Fine Grind has received much support from the Edmonton music scene. Park Warden, Brandon Manitoba and Yukon Jack from 100.3 The Bear, are all strong supporters of Deep Fine Grind’s original rock sound and because of that, Deep Fine Grind has received numerous plays on The Bear including at least one prime time interview. Deep Fine Grind has also made two appearances on A-Channel’s “Wired” with Shannon Tyler and on the “Big Breakfast” with Steven Antle. At the end of the year 2002, Deep Fine Grind received recognition from Brandon Manitoba at 100.3 The Bear, and Fish Griwkowsky at The Edmonton Sun, as one of the most memorable up and coming bands of the year 2002.
With hard hitting original songs and a live performance that proves style doesn’t conquer over substance, Deep Fine Grind dishes out a show that is sure to please.
