"Diablo: Icaros"

Diablo: Icaros

4,5/5

In my opinion within the last few years Finnish metal music has taken a huge leap forward. Today even more and more Finnish band´s end up into international markets and that surely has risen a lot more interest towards Finnish bands. Diablo, who had the honour to be the warm-up act for the almighty Metallica last year has returned with a new offering titled “Icaros”. The effort was released on May 14th through their new home, Sakara Records which is also home to such Finnish acts as Mokoma and Stam1na.

I remember the times when Diablo unleashed their album “Eternium” in 2004. The effort got stuck into my CD-player for a long time and I just couldn´t stop listening to the band´s powerful metal assaults. “Mimic 47” which appeared two years later in 2006 was a small disappointment for me even though the album topped Finnish charts. The album wasn´t heavy enough to please my thirst but with “Icaros” the band just robs the bank. When “Mimic 47” contained only few amazing songs and even few weak ones, “Icaros” is much tighter concept in every way. The band has once again found the amazing balance between the melodies and aggression which made them so popular in the first place. Tracks like “Icaros”, “Living Dead Superstar” and “Through Difficulties To Defeat” are definitely the best proof that Diablo has once again founded the winning formula and made an album all the metal heads around the globe can easily enjoy.

Diablo have definitely returned with their most dynamic and powerful effort to date. The band has taken everything from their past and crafted it in a way that doesn´t really leave any metalheads cold. If you´re searching for a true metal album from a true modern Finnish metal machine, get this or fucking die! Truly great effort from Diablo! - Hardcoresounds.net

Bio

Four piece Finnish metal-bulldozer Diablo was born on the west coast of Finland in the late 1990’s. Diablo’s talent was soon noticed by Poko Records, which released the band’s debut album ELEGANCE IN BLACK in 2000. Two years later Diablo were ready to hit big with their second album RENAISSANCE. The album debuted at the position #14 in the official Finnish album charts and raised Diablo to the frontline of Finnish metal bands.

Diablo did not lay back to repeat the success formula. The band continued evolving and sharpened their style for the third album ETERNIUM (2004); the sound was more carefully considered and the band gave more space to strong melodies. However, the down-tuned guitars kept crushing the listener like ever before. ETERNIUM took the position #3 on the Finnish album charts and the album stayed on the charts for ten weeks. Diablo went on tour to play intense shows all over Finland to establish their place in the hearts of Finnish metal heads.

Diablo’s fourth album called MIMIC47 (2006) crystallized what Diablo is all about; virtuous musicianship, genius guitar riffs, great melodies and the undisputed attitude that only the Finnish men living in the dark and cold north could have. Impatiently awaited MIMIC47 reached the #1 position on the Finnish album charts and so did the title song single on the single charts. In 2007 Diablo toured Germany for two weeks to promote the album’s German release. One of the highlights in Diablo’s career so far was supporting Metallica at their Helsinki Olympic Stadium concert.

Diablo’s fifth album, Icaros, was their first one for Sakara Records. The album introduces the band more aggressive than ever; the tempos have gone up and the guitar tuning down. According to the reviews and Diablo fans, Icaros is Diablo’s strongest album so far. The records buyers rewarded the band by giving Icaros the position #2 on the Finnish album charts.
