Bio
The Dialectics is a live hip-hop band with origins in Lexington, Kentucky. They blend conscious flows and postmodern sensibilities with funk, jazz and hip-hop beats. Their shows are interactive and memorable for the funky grooves, conscious poetics with 'move the crowd' delivery, and artistic experimentation. Eric Wilkinson's lyricism is political, personal and "critical" in the Frankfurt School sense of the word. Jai Hamilton holds it down with her emcee stylings and soulful vocals a la Ladybug Mecca or Lauryn Hill. The band plays music that is challenging and experimental while still accessible to party people who love to dance.
Influences include: Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Afrika Bambattaa, Run-DMC, Digable Planets, Hendrix, Coltrane, Pavement, Nirvana, Talking Heads, Public Enemy, Krs One, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, P Funk, The Pharcyde, Tracy Chapman, Erykah Badu, Ani Difranco, Beck
