Lyrics

N.Y.

Written By: Dan Jackson

The West, it stole their light around nine
Just like late August stole all warmth from poor July
Their shadows turned to silhouettes
Their silhouettes in turn did fade
It’s getting late

But her Mama don’t mind
Mama’s out on the town
Her Daddy’s been gone twelve years
She never had him around
But Lord it’s the same backseat
The same autumn clouds
The same young man from sixteen years ago
It won’t be the same from here on out

They’re blaring young, ya they’re singing n.y.
He swiped a bottle from his brother that’s alright
They’re drinking harvest moons to suit the sky
And to pass the time
Before they face the night

It doesn’t matter what her heart says
It’s already set
She’s too easily influenced by substance and her little boyfriend
So she’s drinking away
Every single last god placed doubt
She’s tense, but intends and promises no change from here on out

They’re brushing up real close now
They’re breathing so damn deep
They’re doing things they will regret now
Before they fall asleep

She sees her father in her dreams
He’s in the eyes and flaws of every boy she meets
The whiskey makes her want to scream
Why don’t you love me daddy

Because Mama don’t mind
Mama’s too drunk now
Mama has no idea she’s stumbling back to an empty house
She couldn’t care less about her child
Walking down the same road she went down
It’s made her cry herself to sleep every night from then on out

Things Hold Courses

Written By: Dan Jackson

You’re a marionette
But we’re short on time
I’m sure that you’ll find happiness
In someone else’s grasp
Although you haven’t yet
Don’t pass your faith don’t fade
Just move towards the edge
I know how things get lonely

But you don’t have the right to hang your head
When you’ve got all the means to curb your sins
So you better get used to it
As I’ve gotten used to it
They will see past your charm

Now you’ve fallen in
Died watching souls get broken down
Get born again
A thousand dreams laid claims
With all your foul intent
It’s time to move lay down
I’ll meet you near the end
I know how things get lonely

But you don’t have the right to hang your head
When you’ve got all the means to curb your sense.
So you better get used to it
As I’ve gotten used to it
They will see past your face
