Biography

Dick LeMasters was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and grew up listening to the many notable artists from the area. Favorites include Edgar & Johnny Winter and Janis Joplin. Other Texas influences include Jerry Jeff Walker and Ray Wylie Hubbard. More recently, Steve Earle, Guy Clark and John Hiatt have been important to LeMasters' songwriting style.

LeMasters currently performs solo, with acoustic duo partner Douglas Greer, and with the band Longneck Road. In 2014, LeMasters recorded and is releasing his first solo CD, entitled: "One Bird, Two Stones". The album features eleven original songs, and was recorded by the legendary Floyd Badeaux at Great Recordings Studio in Port Arthur, Texas. Badeaux's studio (still in the same location) holds the distinction of having recorded a teen-aged Janis Joplin prior to her rise to stardom.

In 2009, LeMasters formed the band Longneck Road in Beaumont, Texas, to perform his original music. The band has reached several milestones in its short history, opening shows for The Charlie Daniels Band, Ronnie Milsap, John Anderson, Chuck Berry, Wayne Toups & Zydecajun, Paul Thorn, and Django Walker. Longneck Road also performs at events and festivals in and around Southeast Texas. LeMasters has opened shows as a solo act for Paul Thorn, Thom Shepherd, and for Texas artists Shinyribs, Brian Keane, and John Evans, among others.

LeMasters is a member of SESAC and is an active participant in the Nashville Songwriters Association International, making regular trips to Nashville to perform at writers' nights. LeMasters also performs regularly in Austin, Houston, Galveston, and Llano, Texas, and is a regular performer at the Beaumont Songwriters' Group quarterly Songwriters Cafe events.

Television footage of Dick LeMasters and Longneck Road performing LeMasters' original song "Big Ol' Buick" at the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame Concert at the Port Arthur, Texas, Civic Center, is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFbk95j8uas

Dick LeMasters is available to perform as a solo acoustic act, with duo partner Douglas Greer, and with Longneck Road as a full electric band or with Longneck Road in an "un-plugged" format. Although the focus of all of these projects is to perform original music, any of these lineups is also suited to perform cover material depending on the needs of the event or venue.

Lyrics

Colder Back at Home

Written By: Dick LeMasters

Colder Back At Home

(Verse1)
The view from Colorado fills my eyes today
Long road back to Texas and I hesitate to say
If it’s even worth the trouble to cross that thousand miles
I don’t see it goin’ well and I never see her smile

(Chorus)
Spirits may watch over, but ghosts they only haunt
Out here on the road gig, but not the one I want
So far apart even together I’m alone
It’s cool in Colorado but colder back at home

(Verse 2)
The view from Colorado tends to hide the pain
Snowy white, electric, ‘stead of clouds and drivin’ rain
Here atop the world I no longer feel my scars
The mountains reach for heaven, I can almost touch the stars

(Verse 3)
The view from Colorado etched into my mind
Easin’ down Raton, New Mexico line
A dozen or so hours and by then I’ll know
She may no longer want me, she may tell me to go

Not Mine

Written By: Dick LeMasters

NOT MINE
(Verse 1)
Heard the story of a good man
Who got left standin’ in the rain
I must remember what that feels like now
What it takes to cause that kind of pain

(Verse 2)
Passed close enough to feel the tide
Pullin’ at our hearts
Can’t remember how or why
We took separate roads apart

Chorus: Not Mine
Wasn’t Mine
Wasn’t Ever Mine
But still it hits me so
Not Mine
Wasn’t Mine
Wasn’t Ever Mine
And I’ve got a long way
A long way to go

Bridge: She dreams in colors
Colors I can’t see
The dreams of lovers
Dreams that, are hidden from me

(Verse 3)
They say it comes in circles
At least so I’ve been told
There are wonders hidden in her eyes
Wonders that I will never know

Big Ol' Buick

Written By: Dick LeMasters

Lord, I hung my head and cried
Ford Motor Credit done took my ride
Cadillacin’ on my own two feet
Big Ol’ Buick on the side of the street
The sign said “clean” but it was dirty and brown
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town

Walked up to the house and knocked on the door
The man said “Boy, what you here for?”
I said “I’m tired of walkin’ need to check that car”
He took a drink from his mason jar
Said “The owner’s name was Big John Brown”
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town

I climbed inside and stepped on the clutch
The floorboard was filled with cigarette butts
Fired up the engine, it started to scream
Looked in the back, there’s a fifth of Jim Beam
The sign said “clean” but it was dirty and brown
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town

The upholstery was black and shiny and cold
Windshield was filled with .38 holes
Opened the trunk just to see what was there
There was blood on the tire iron and some on the spare
The sign said “clean” but it was dirty and brown
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town

I’m the kind to let things slide
But Ford Motor Credit done took my ride
Now you see me pimpin’ down
In my Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
Big Ol’ Buick from the bad side of town
