Remember 2003? Horrible Wasn’t it.

Yet, deep in the far south of New Zealand two Dunedin teenagers Andrew Wilson (Guitar/ Vocals) and Michael Prain (drums) were wide-eyed, enthusiastic and sneaking into as many shows as they could which would change their lives forever.

After playing in noise bands and being involved with the vibrant Dunedin music scene long time friends Andrew and Mikey decided it was about time to do something more exciting with their music. Out of this came Die! Die! Die!
Inspired by the bands they saw (HDU, Bailterspace, the Dead C) and a quick trip to Auckland where their friends, sick of hearing them talk only about Dunedin bands, lent them some amazing records, Die! Die!Die! quickly started playing as shows as they could.

After playing almost everywhere and anywhere in New Zealand and Australia, and releasing a handful of ear melting 7inches and EP’s, Die! Die! Die! traveled to Chicago to record their self-titled debut album (2005), with Steve Albini. Recorded in three quick days, it was an approach that captured the essence of the band live. Raw, pure and minimal.

From here, the band embarked on an intense international touring schedule, that has seen them play around the world in all manner of venues from house parties to parks to clubs and festivals. When bassist Henry Oliver left the band in 2006, Die! Die! Die! invited their friend Lachlan Anderson to join the band having seen him play in all three support bands for their Brisbane album release.

Finally Die! Die! Die! could do what they wanted.

Their second album 'Promises, Promises' (2007) was recorded in a dilapidated barn in upstate New York with the help of friend and fellow Dunedinite Shayne P Carter (Straightjacket Fits). Released to world-wide critical acclaim (including 8/10 reviews in The Guardian and NME), 'Promises, Promises', saw the band back on the road until last year, where they headed to Dunedin to write album number three, 'FORM'. Aptly the band also found themselves signed to Flying Nun Records.

Masterfully produced and recorded by Nick Roughan (The Skeptics), 'FORM' is Die! Die! Die! like you have never heard. It is the album they always wanted to write, and the one you knew they would. It calls upon all the parts, plus more, that make this band so exciting but never allows you to stop and put your finger on one. Is it noise pop? Post punk? Shoe gaze? Noise/ post/ gaze/pop?

Whatever you call it, its relentless, reckless and sometimes menacing. It has all the ferocious energy and bursting melodies of their previous releases, and while it can tear through you one moment, it also shows a band trying on something different. It is a collision of sounds. It feels like an (R)evolution.

Remember the first time you saw a band that blew your mind right open? Die! Die! Die! is all about doing that.
