DIE FAST, the Los Angeles-based punk/metal band featuring Tod Waters from the legendary Texan band SPUNK, has just finished recording a six-song EP called "Live Ammunition". The EP was recorded and mixed live by Erik Colvin at Laleyenda and mastered at Paramount Studios by Bill Doodley (NEW FOUND GLORY, MÖTLEY CRÜE). According to the four members of this Los Angeles based 4 piece, the definition of "Die Fast" is to hit people in the face as hard as possible with a baseball bat. At least such is the intended effect this band produces with its hard hitting, in your face, punk rock style. The live set list is designed to be a 25 minute massacre of pounding drum rhythms, blistering guitar riffs and grainy vocal lines. The vocal melodies range from Dead Boys inspired old school punk to grundgy Cobain-esque yells. The lyrics can be at times unexpectedly humorous adding a quirky dimension to the otherwise edgy sound. The debut EP release titled "Live Ammunition" is essentially a live album. The band tries to underline the raw spirit of its music by using only live studio takes with minimal production and no overdubbing. Ten songs were recorded all in one day of which the best six were chosen to make the EP. Not only is the live feel being recreated on this record but the band also showcases its live playing ability. The first track (appropriately named Die Fast ) kicks off with a massive, machine gun-like drum and guitar intro and pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album.
The first Die Fast incarnation came together in 2006. Singer Tod Waters had started the band recruiting amongst others some members of local punk outfit Total Chaos. After a few songs were recorded the search for a permanent bass player and guitar player began. With Peri already on drums, Ken and James joined in March of 2007 on bass and guitar respectively. WIth this new line-up a good song writing chemistry evolved quickly and 6 new songs were written. In this short period of time, the group has managed to finish their debut EP and have had a steady Monday night time slot at the Key Club opening for Metal Skool. They also appeared at The Silverlake Music Festival at Sunset Junction.
