"But first, a surprise....spectacular"

The solo piano set offered up by Diego Ramirez was spectacular, and lived up to all of Herr Director's hype...
His pianistic brilliance and staggering creative energy was a joy to behold. He presented tunes by Monk and Herbie Hancock, a couple of standards (including a brief tear through "On A Clear Day..." as an encore) plus a number of original compositions, one for each of his two daughters, one for a former girlfriend, and most memorably a fantastic work-in-progress depicting three eras in Mexican cultural history, making use of traditional Mayan music, in addition to Spanish and contemporary elements.”
- Flavor of (PDX Jazz) Festival, February 18, 2007

"Impeccable Technique"

Diego Ramirez "demonstrated impeccable technique, a broad emotional and dynamic range, and an understanding of the jazz tradition.” In reference to Diego Ramirez's composition "Eras",
“From its tumultuous beginning to the more lamenting finish, it best demonstrated Ramirez’s ability to traverse considerable territory, from a delicate touch to great power.” - All About Jazz online, by John Kelman, Feb.25, 2007

"Pianist Diego Ramirez Mesmerized the Audience"

“Solo Pianist Diego Ramirez, in the country from Cabo, played his U.S. debut and simply mesmerized the audience. His skill and composing abilities are exciting and extraordinary, and full of passion. You'll be hearing a lot more from this young man.” - Jazz USA online February 2007

In "Hallucinations," I really enjoyed the playing; excellent feel, very nice phrasing of your solo lines, interesting arrangement, great piano sound and voicings, and the music is swinging and creative." - Jeff Williams, Kari-On Productions, L.L.C.

"Diego Ramirez"

If you have not heard of this first artist, DIEGO RAMIREZ, you are in for a real treat and it is a musical must for your visit. Locally the Diego Ramirez Trio plays cool jazz. But stepping back in Mexican time to Mayan culture, this Mexican pianist and composer, Diego Ramirez is exploring an exciting new sound with his original compositions and recordings of Mayan ethnic jazz. A new CD will be released in the fall entitled “El Ultimo Chilam-Balam”, or “The Last Chilam-Balam (priest)”. We had the privilege of previewing the sound and it can only be described as grand, symphonic, beautiful, innovative and a true mixture of old Mayan music with modern jazz, a very exciting, original and ambitious project. The uncle of Diego’s wife spent thirty years living in the jungle with the Mayans, studying and participating in their culture, carving many beautiful musical Mayan instruments such as the tunkul and huehuetls, both percussion instruments. Diego incorporates these instruments and other Mayan sounds, such as the conch shell, in this new recording by the Diego Ramirez Trio. - Destino Los Cabos Fall 2005
