Diesel 255 is a five-piece band made up of an eclectic mix of artists bringing their style of melt-your-face raucous rock to the masses. Destin Purvis, Brandon Latham, Kenny Davis, Richard Lee Davis and Seth Thomas have all been powerhouses in the local music scene doing solo projects, but come together to create Jackson's No. 1 local cover band. And unlike a lot of band members who would let their success and experience blow up their egos, these guys remain humble and true to the music they make with each other. The group DIESEL 255 is NOT your typical cover band…they are the CURE for the typical cover band. Hailing from Jackson, MS, the group has been described as “one amazing, original monster of a musical force!”
Their fan following is nothing short of a small army and growing. The simple fact that Diesel sells more merchandise than any original band around speaks for itself. This kind of response to the band has been unexpected to say the least, but not underestimated. Each member of D-255 has been playing music professionally for years. That experience shows on the stage, off the stage and in the crowds’ eyes. This is NOT some wanna-be, wet behind the ears band. D-255 is out there to raise the bar.
D-255 is the brainchild of bassist, Destin Davis, a live music guru in the South’s scene going on 6 yrs now. Between managing bands, promotions, booking and event planning, he met many local artists. Picking and choosing from every stage he crossed, he started forming a band of Jackson’s finest. Under his musical and professional direction, this would be a monster that would change the face of live shows in MS. Real, talented, successful musicians, coming together and putting their spin on songs; this was Destin’s goal…. And he achieved it!!!
The only obvious choice for drums was Brandon Latham. A graduate of Full Sail College for Sound Engineering and a founding member of bands such as ‘Creep Left’ and ‘Absence of Concern’, he’s a true veteran of the stage. Latham has opened up for numerous national acts such as Hailstorm, Saving Abel, 12 Stones and Cage the Elephant. With an uncanny knowledge of the drums and an ability to play any style, Latham would seal the foundation of Diesel’s sound.
When Kenny Davis signed on to play, Diesel had found their edge! The front man for ‘Creep Left’ and ‘Slack Jawed’ literally came out of nowhere! His powerful voice and amazing guitar technique drew in the crowd with his original songs. With a background in rock/metal, Davis is not the average singer/songwriter, which made him a perfect fit for Diesel. His style brings a whole other element to the band.
Seth Thomas was the pivot point. An excessive perfectionist, Thomas does NOT let anything on the guitar slide through the cracks. With almost 20 yrs on the strings, his solos bring tears to eyes and the crowd to its feet! Formally of the national bands ‘Sally Jane’ and ‘Liz Strowd’, Thomas is no stranger to the lime-light. His talent is immense and beyond ANY other lead guitarist around!
The last member is singer/songwriter Richard Lee Davis. With 5 yrs professional experience, almost 1000 shows played, 2 live albums, 1 studio album and a faithful following from all over the south, Richard has paid his dues. Drawing off that experience, Richard connects with the crowd, bringing them along with the music, whether they are singing, slow dancing or breaking’ it down! Richard makes the crowd feel like a part of the show. Diesel had its performer.
With 3 part vocal harmonies, years of experience and a tight, well rehearsed sound, D-255 is like nothing out there today!
