Bio

Di eVano is an exiting string quartet that captures a unique blend of different musics and cultures within amazing performance. The group, founded by bassist Irais B. Hierrezuelo in 2006, features touches of the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa within a tight framework that marries calssical complexity with the freedom and playfulness of traditional Latin jazz, Son, and Rumba music. The group performs pieces ranging in period, place of orgen, and style, from J.S. Bach to Emiliano Salvador to Chick Corea to Buena Vista Social Club. With its endless array of possibilities, Di eVano can bring a top-notch performance to any venue, whether it be a small jazz club, a rollicking dance party, or a concert hall stage show.

Di eVano features four talented and diverse musicians. Mayreni Morel, from the Dominican Republic, plays violin, bringing an intense Latin flavor to her melodies on tango, rumba, and salsa pieces, among others. Phakamani Pega, from South Africa, also plays violin, and roots the group strongly in African rhythms and harmonies. Kira Meade, a cellist from New York, contributes both professional classical precision and passionate improvitional ability, a quality not often found in cello players, to the quartet's mid-range. Finally, Irais B. Hierrezuelo, the group's bassist and founder, anchors the group into new musical explorations with his wide, eclectic choice of material and arrangements.

In 2006, Di eVano headline at Ryles Jazz Club's "World Wednesdays," a weekly showcase of the best world music in Boston. The group put on a fascinating show for the packed crowd. Di eVano looks forward to bringing its unique sound to new places throughout the Boston area and beyond. For an eclectic, exiting string quartet the likes of which you've never heard before, look no further than Di eVano.
