"Album Review // "Slow Wave Violence""

Some albums take you on a journey, and sometimes you don’t even realize that you’ve started one until suddenly something in the music shows that you’re not at home anymore... That’s what happened to me on my first listen to Slow Wave Violence.

...instrumental projects can be hit or miss. Dimwind is very, very much a hit.

This is the kind of stuff that you want to play loud while you close your eyes and just allow yourself to submerge in it...

Through the whole album there are these little moments of brightness-shifts to optimistic major chords and brief happy flashes mixed in with the darkness...

I don’t want to understate how significant of a work I think Dimwind’s Slow Wave Violence is. I know instrumental albums can be quite an ask for the listener... But I sincerely encourage you to give this record a chance. Put it on and lose yourself in the journey.

"Review // Dimwind - Slow Wave Violence"

Post-Metal without borders...
The music of the Gothenburg based post-metal duo is definitely worth listening to – seven great songs are waiting to get under your skin...

Dimwind speak a melancholic language...
the Swedes pursue a cross-genre approach, and they do it quite brilliantly. They are blurring the boundaries between post-rock and all adjacent music genres, doing what they love – with a lot of heart, soul, and positive energy...

„Slow Wave Violence“ is definitely unique. Dimwind show that they can keep up with bands like Pelican, Russian Circles and Long Distance Calling. I would be happy to see them live on stage someday soon...

"Review // Dimwind - Slow Wave Violence"

I categorized this under post metal genre because that's where I think, the roots of this album lie, but to call it just post metal would be a massive understatement. The music crosses so many genres and with success as the compositions are coherent and dynamic. The music flows on effortlessly despite the many twists in pace and melody.

Highly melancholic and melodic, serene and yet, occasionally very showing some teeth.

...it dwells on the traditional scandinavic melancholy but I feel that there is something positive, something hopeful

in there to take with us...⁣

Bio

Dimwind is an instrumental post-rock/metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, consisting of guitarist Andreas Hansen and drummer Jonas Eriksson. The two have been playing together in different constellations since the late 90's (Murk Moribund, Succubus, Eilan More, Sizm).

They established Dimwind as a duo in 2019 in order to be able to create without consideration to other members. But also with an venturous intent of having a genre defyingapproach and not be so easily branded. The vision is to let the music float effortlessly over adjacent genres to create a uniqueand intriguing soundscape of melancholy and energy.

This is attained by not conforming within the sometimes far too narrow framework of post-rock, by adding sludgy riffing and a heavier sound. But at the same time not fall into the preconceived form of post-metal, by blending in some catchy harmonies and faster passages. Also a lot of instrumental acts tend to focus more on instrumentalism than actual song writing, Dimwind tend to lean towards the latter and focus on mournful melodies and scandinavian melancholy.

Despite the bravery of claiming uniqueness the duo knows that isn't all true, but they are sure that fans of similar acts like Russian Circles, Pelican, Pg.lost and Long Distance Calling, will appreciate their music.

May 14th 2021 the band independently released their full length debut album"Slow Wave Violence" on all streaming platforms. An album that was written, recorded and distributedin a DIY way. It have gained positive response from listeners and critics around the world.

Even if Dimwind is their main priority, Andreas and Jonas are also making non-instrumental music in their band Sizm. The guys are already in the midst of writing new material, so stay tuned for future releases!
