DION JONES AND THE FILTH
VELVET FEVER

Saw these guys perform at the Pitt St store today! Just keys and guitar but it sounded amazing. Great CD also, the songs are unreal!

Heard their single "One Eye Open" on Nova and bought the CD that day...What an album!

I bought this album after hearing their 1st single, Angel Chimes, on the radio a couple of months ago. There is something soooo appealing about this band - once you start playing their CD, you can't stop! Hopefully my fave song on the album, 'One Eye Open' is released on the airwaves soon! GO THE FILTH!

Definately a must have for all ages! My 74 year old mother loves it! Great songs, great sound.... why aren't these guys signed?

These guys are amazing! I checked them out at the HMV in Pitt St Mall. They played an acoustic show and it was seriously the best Australian band i have heard in a long time! The songs are so well written and Dion sings like an Angel! Nice to have piano also, very very cool! And they have backing singers! For me it is my CD of the year! Best track is No. 4. "One eye open"....Bring on the Filth!

When asked to define which genre of music Dion Jones and the Filth fits into, I'm always stuck for words. Anyone I've asked this question always appears to have the answer on the tip of their tongue, but can't quite articulate a solid answer... they simply conclude along the lines of "they're just bloody awesome!" Without doubt, Dion Jones and The Filth's strengths lie in mastered songwriting, pitch-perfect vocals and catchy keyboard riffs. These guys have introduced a refreshing perspective to "noughties" music, with their obvious respect and passion for music taking priority over the money-driven objectives so common in the music industry today.

Saw these guys at the Vanguard last week after hearing them on Nova. It's so refreshing to hear a band creating fresh, unadulterated music... and not the pop-recipe crap we all hear on the radio!! Album's great... "Velvet Fever" and "One Eye Open" edge out the others for me. You can't accurately classify this type of music, and any attempt to is elementary at best... definately one of Sydney's undiscovered gems!

Bio

Concerning their debut album 'Velvet Fever', critics noted that "Perhaps this album is what critics were expecting Jeff Buckley's album to sound more like" 4/5 (Mark Mitchell, The Brag) and that the band creates "epic pop that brushes past lounge jazz, big band funk and subtle rock as at rattles and soars to a lithospheric level of distinction" (Erik Jensen, Drum Media).
They have also stated that:
"An album like Velvet Fever is like seeing the sun for the first time after years of grey skies. Dion Jones & the Filth are acting as a living reminder of what music can be - if you're a fan of good music then the filth is your new 'must listen' band."
(Lesley Rickman, Neucleus UNE)

"This CD shows Dion to be one of the best local discoveries of 2005...It's the voice that is so noticeable and striking. The range is breathtaking and amongst very few I've heard in Australia in recent times. As long as Dion can write prolifically and sing with such skill, there is much to be optimistic about."
Carmine Pascuzzi, Mediasearch: Music, Film and Fashion in Australia

"I've just been listening to the new Antony and the Johnson's album and as I put yours on I thought 'Well, nothing will stand out for the rest of the day'. Not so! This is an awesome effort! Congratulations!"
John Carver, 3PBS FM

"A confident debut from this Sydney four piece - Velvet Fever is a strong excursion" 4/5
Evan Alexander, Tsunami Magazine

"A shimmering, well-crafted and touching collection"
Ed Montano, SX Magazine

Dion Jones & the Filth released their critically acclaimed debut album in May 2005 (released through MGM). They sold out the Metro in Sydney, the Hopetoun hotel in Sydney, the Vanguard in Sydney and they played to packed houses at the Ding Dong Lounge and the legendary Espy in Melbourne in their first run of dates for the album. Two single's lifted from the album received high rotation airplay on Nova 96.9FM in Australia and the band toured extensively with Sydney re-inventors of Soul - The Hands.
