Bio
Born Direala Kalaiti in Houston, TX and raised in Lafayette, LA to a Nigerian father and a mother who is a Louisiana native. He is the youngest of four children, with two brothers and one sister. Growing up, his two brothers both partook in writing and reciting rap material early on, and as the younger brother, peers expected him to follow suit. However, he never considered being a rapper. Frankly, it was unappealing. As years passed, he continued to follow his own path and always had a unique taste in music considering his location geographically. It was not until he was 15 that he decided to pursue a career as a rapper. One summer while thoroughly exploring 2Pac's discography (and other west coast artists of past and present), on a spur of the moment, his decision was made. From then on, some notable lyrically inclined artists have made some influence on Direala, and he has gone from a punchline rapper to a full fledged musician with a diverse music range and influence from Neo Soul to Electronic genres.
