BandRockAlternative

Music you can feel ie. Foot-stomping rock songs and surreal anthems possessing seamless clean to heavy guitar progressions and catchy infectious riffs.

Biography

Making their way through a confused mesh of local teenage bands Padraig O’ Connor and Dave O’ Sullivan, the original members of Dirty Face Kids, finally ran into one another in 1999. Following an immediate click with regard to song writing and influences and a realisation that the music mattered more, the two lads set about recording at a local studio. As a result, songs like “Still Stands a Tree”, possessing seamless clean to heavy guitar progressions and catchy infectious riffs that immediately claw the listener in, were born. What started as a handful soon emerged into a collection of foot-stomping rock songs and surreal anthems filled with harmony and energy.
With influences ranging from Metallica, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Radiohead, Creed and the great Jeff Buckley, the band have a diverse taste in music which in turn makes their sound interesting, but easily accessible.
More recently the boys have recruited the talented Aidan Browne on bass guitar and David Kavanagh on rhythm guitar and vocals. With an unshakable dedication to the cause, these arrivals have added optimism and drive to a group who now feel that it would be something special to get their sound to a wider audience. “Numb” is currently receiving extensive airplay on Corks Red Fm and Campus Radio at both U.C.D and U.C.C, and as a result the bands profile has been raised considerably over the last few months. In 2007 Dirty Face Kids performed at The Granary, Killarney sharing the stage with Hotpress favourites Delorentos, where they are said to have “received the best crowd response of the entire Murphys Live competition”. Their next gig will be during the Killarney Summerfest.

Lyrics

Not a Ghost of a Chance

Written By: Dirty Face Kids

First Verse
She was Friday evening
God’s hand weaving
A perfect spell
Yeah a perfect spell
She gave nothing away
With so much to say
Every time
yeah every time

Chorus
There’s not a chance that it could last
Not a raindrop’s in hell
I tie myself to the mast
But I think that I might as well
Yeah I’ll just say goodnight
Goodnight my dear
Yeah I’ll just say goodnight
But you can’t hear me

Second Verse
With her spotless thoughts
She never fought
her better side
Yeah her better side
She gave nothing away
With so much to say
Every time
yeah every time

Chorus X 2
There’s not a chance that it could last
Not a raindrop’s in hell
I tie myself to the mast
But I think that I might as well
Yeah I’ll just say goodnight
Goodnight my dear
Yeah I’ll just say goodnight
But you can’t hear me

Numb

Written By: Dirty Face Kids

First Verse
This ice wont thaw it thickens
This heart of stone
Been cemented with this crown
This beggars throne

I’ve fumbled blind to this point
my eyes opened
I see a past of dust
and misspent years
and misspent years

Chorus
sow me up my friend
and put me back up on the shelf
I’m not ready to become
I’m too cold
I’m too numb

Second Verse
I saw those eyes betray me
Drowned in her words
I lay there much to numb to say I’m sorry

I’ve fumbled blind to this point
my eyes opened
I see a past of dust
and misspent years
and misspent years

Chorus X 2
sow me up my friend
and put me back up on the shelf
I’m not ready to become
I’m too cold
I’m too numb

Answers to the Rain

Written By: Dirty Face Kids

First Verse
Sitting here waiting in this old house
I’ve been here a lifetime
I’ve been here since sin
You’ve been wasting all your time picking up
Cheap jokes that get old quick
Quick laughs and every fix

Bridge
Your breaking out
Our old town’s got you down
The hard faces in the crowd that want you

Chorus
You can’t run
Hiding there forever
Thinking that it’s clever
Cause Ill be here
when you come back weeping answers to the rain

Second Verse
Is it easy easier to feel
You can be yourself now
Brighter cold and hollow
I bet your still wasting
Too much of your time
Time that you don’t have no more
Time that’s made you old

Bridge
Your breaking out
Our old town’s got you down
The hard faces in the crowd that want you

Chorus
You can’t run
Hiding there forever
Thinking that it’s clever
Cause Ill be here
when you come back weeping answers to the rain
