"International Gigs For City Band"

SOURCE: http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/4668284.Newport_band_set_for_international_gigs/

A NEWPORT band which gained an international following after posting their videos on the internet will play in New York, Paris and Berlin next year.

Electro-pop band Dirty Goods uploaded films of two of their most popular songs onto video-sharing website YouTube in August, getting more than 50,000 hits since.

They worked with Bristol-based filmmaker Ben Dowden to make the videos and the band think his popularity attracted people to listen to their music.

The band members are bass player James Wood, 24, who works in Torfaen council's highways planning, Lloyds TSB worker Michael Gregory, 22, who plays the drums, and singer Antony Smith, 23, who works as an artist.

The band got together in February after meeting on the local music scene and practice and record their songs at Newport’s 48v recording studio.

All the money they make from performing is pumped back into the band and will help fund their upcoming shows in Paris and Berlin next January and New York in March.

Mr Wood said: "We are looking forward to travelling to new places and playing to people who haven’t heard us before."

On October 15 they will support The Noisettes at Cardiff University. - South Wales Argus

"Dirty Goods EP Review"

‘Dirty Goods‘ is a band with an eletronic sound and a disco feel to their songs. After sliding their self-titled album into my CD player, I was transported from the first track to the last, it was uncompromising to a funky, electro 80’s style. The first track ‘Honest’ starts with a groovy disco flavour and the second pretty much follow the same theme and by the time I got to track four, it could easily be a soundtrack from a movie.
However, track six was very different from all the rest, it was very dark and grimey with a hip hop feel, but, unfortunately the song lasted just over a minute and I would have loved to have heard it develop a little more.
Overall, I love Dirty Goods Ep and would give it a MIJM (4 planets)

"They’re the first band of the three-day marathon to get us dancing"

And now for something completely different, as, across the road, Dirty Goods channel Prince and come up with a pop chart glossy groove all of their own. They’re the first band of the three-day marathon to get us dancing.
