“Local five-piece Dirty on Purpose's stunning EP, Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow, is full of strange, sweet melodies that had us wishing it was more than 20 minutes long.” - Time Out NY
"Dirty on Purpose channels the ghost of mid-'90s Yo La Tengo -- the more melodic, upbeat moments, not so much the Ira's-freaking-out-on-his-guitar moments. They truly understand the indie rock craft." - Gothamist.com / Coolfer.com
“Dirty on Purpose’s sweetly soaring vocals and quietly rhythmic grooves shimmer like melancholy reflections along the surface of a placid lake. But as we know, still waters can run deep and this Brooklyn quintet is much more than another pensive emo outfit. Four of the group handle vocals with drummer Doug Marvin usually taking the lead, but ever present is Erika Forster’s evocative voice weaving its way throughout and stirring up a ripple or two… Employing theramins and bowed guitar, the band has a rich instrumental fullness, which isn’t always expected, or often found in this genre.” - NeonNYC.com
"This Brooklyn five-piece has been making some serious waves since they began playing out in late 2002. One of the more interesting aspects of this group is their trading vocalization… DoP’s sound can change from delicate to dynamic in a matter of seconds with soaring instrumentation and intense riff interplay." - SugarZine.com
“Brooklyn's Dirty on Purpose open with sprawling soundscapes that induce dreamy reflection. The pensive lyric-writing duties are split between all five members, while only four of them share time behind the microphone, anchored by the strong vocals of drummer Doug Marvin.” - Flavorpill.net
“Kicking off the night were New York rock scene newcomers Dirty On Purpose, a five-some causing a stir with their swirls of atmospheric pop, combining soft, smooth melodies that seem to caress like warm summer waves, and introspective lyrics delivered in a childlike croon by none other than the band’s drummer.” - PlayLouder.com

Bio
Brooklyn-based Dirty On Purpose released their debut EP titled Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow in April 2004. The band's five members have spent the last year crafting a selection of experimental pop songs that incorporate unusual elements, such as bowed guitar and vibraphones, into their inventive arrangements. Their delicate vocal interplay has been likened to Belle & Sebastian, and their ability to craft a glorious wall of sound earns comparisons to U2, Ride and Mogwai.
Formed in the fall of 2002, it didnt take them long to flesh out songs for their self-titled 2003 demo, which got them gigs at some of New Yorks best venues, including Mercury Lounge, Sin-e, North Six and Knitting Factory. With Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow, Dirty on Purposes overall sound has become more atmospheric and catchy, ranging from slower, more fragile songs like Cheat Death to live favorites with more driving guitar builds and drumbeats like Spider Eyes and Mind Blindness.
